Role Overview

Unique opportunity within the Corporate Tax function to serve as the India Tax Manager. The India Tax Manager plays a key role in India on the tax planning, tax analysis, and oversight/review of tax filings and related positions from a direct and indirect tax perspective. In association with others in the Corporate Tax Department and local teams, the India Tax Manager role will work to review/optimize our tax processes, manage tax risk and minimize our holistic India tax burden. This role covers all of Boston Scientific’s operations in India which includes both the Commercial and R&D/Service entities This position also entails the managing of a talented team.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Statements and Tax Compliance:

    • Ensures compliance with local tax rules/regulations and reporting requirements.
    • Oversees the direct and indirect tax compliance efforts to confirm accurate and timely filing and payment on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Executes via close collaboration with local finance.
    • Reviews the tax components of the local financial statements.

 

Legislative Monitoring and Communication:

    • Monitors and analyzes proposed and newly enacted India tax legislation, administrative guidance, court cases, etc.
    • Communicates impact of legislative changes to relevant stakeholders.

 

Tax Research and Planning:

  • Performs proactive tax research and provides recommendations.
    • Assesses current tax structure and related processes in India; defines and drives towards optimal and efficient structure.

 

Tax Audits and Risk Management:

    • Oversees direct and indirect tax audits and ensures all tax authority inquiries are addressed in a timely manner.
    • Communicates identified risks and implements risk mitigation strategies.
    • Proactively ensures documentation is in place to support tax positions adopted.

 

Transfer Pricing and Financial Reporting:

    • Leads and executes tax financial reporting and close processes as it relates to income tax accounting in India.
    • Ensures local entities are in full compliance with local transfer pricing rules and regulations, including review of operating margins, variance adjustments, and all compliance obligations.

 

Relationship Building and Collaboration

    • Builds internal and external relationships to understand the business/landscape and related changes (including finance and other business partners).
    • Identifies and communicates local tax planning opportunities or risk mitigation strategies stemming from change.
    • Partners with external advisors and auditors to support all tax compliance and audit work.
    • Works closely with local, regional and global partners to support BSC in various initiatives.

 

Projects and Process Improvement

  • Participation and/or leadership in both finance and cross-functional projects, at the local and regional level.
  • Implements and drives process improvements and efficiency.

 

Leadership

  • Oversee India Tax operations, provide guidance on relevant tax matters
  • Coordinating teamwork, including establishing direction and providing guidance to team members  
  • Foster a collaborative environment with cross functional teams to support business and deliver results

 

Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant/Tax Degree with 10-15+ years of related/tax focused and specialized work experience
  • Strategic tax mindset/tax consultancy experience within public accounting and/or corporate tax department in industry
  • Strong knowledge of direct and indirect taxation in India; foundational knowledge of international tax concepts/rules
  • Ability to multi-task, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines within a fast paced environment
  • Ability to build relationships cross functionally and influence people and results
  • Sound communication skills to manage internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully as a member of a high performing team
  • Ability to work independently without direction on a daily basis
