Principal Cloud Platform Engineer - Azure

We are seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer (Azure) to help build and operate enterprise-grade Azure platform capabilities that enable federated application teams to deliver securely, reliably, and at scale. This role focuses on platform engineering, not application development. You will design, automate, and maintain shared Azure services, guardrails, and landing zones that are consumed by hundreds of workloads across a global enterprise. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design, build, and operate Azure landing zones and shared platform services
• Maintain and evangelize infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or other methods
• Create reusable, opinionated platform components (“golden paths”)
• Implement Azure security baselines and non-negotiable platform guardrails
• Integrate identity, networking, logging, and monitoring standards
• Enforce governance controls while enabling application team speed and autonomy
• Partner with security and architecture teams on zero-trust and hybrid identity patterns
• Design Azure platform patterns that optimize Microsoft Server licensing
• Implement and govern Azure Hybrid Benefit usage for Windows Server and SQL Server
• Lead FinOps and licensing practices to ensure compliant, cost-effective consumption
• Operate Azure platform services with a strong focus on availability and resilience
• Participate in incident response and post-incident learning
• Improve observability, alerting, and operational readiness
• Enable application teams through documentation and reference implementations
• Work closely with Cloud Architects, Identity, Security, and Automation partners

Required Skills: 

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or engineering.
• 7-10 years of Azure related experience and 14+ related work experience or combination of work and education 
• Hands-on experience engineering platforms in Microsoft Azure and migrations from on prem using Azure Migrate
• Experience in Azure networking (VNets, routing, private endpoints)
• Experience in Identity and access management (Azure AD / Entra ID)
• Experience in Security controls and policy enforcement
• Experience operating production cloud environments at enterprise scale
• Working knowledge of Microsoft server licensing concepts, including Windows Server, SQL Server, and Azure Hybrid Benefit
• Ability to balance standards enforcement with delivery urgency

Preferred Skills:

• Experience designing and implementing enterprise Azure landing zones
• Experience with Azure Local / Azure Stack HCI deployments, including hybrid connectivity, identity integration, and lifecycle management
• Familiarity with hybrid and/or multi-cloud environments
• Exposure to Azure Policy, RBAC, management groups
• Knowledge in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) 
• Experience in CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure
• Experience in SRE or reliability engineering practices
• Experience supporting decentralized application teams
