Legal & Compliance Counsel / Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel


Description of Role:

We are seeking an experienced, versatile, client-centric lawyer who will partner with the business to help achieve commercial objectives in a compliant manner and in accordance with our company values.  You will be the primary legal advisor in UK/Ireland for a variety of areas, including: commercial contracts, public procurement, HCP compliance,  marketing, employment matters, competition law, data protection and legal disputes.  You will partner regularly with country leadership.  Support will be provided by an in-house Compliance Specialist, an in-house Contract Specialist, and outside counsel where required.


Responsibilities include: 

  • Advise our seven business units on strategic and operational matters, providing practical, solution-oriented guidance and risk assessments;
  • Help the business to structure and negotiate critical commercial contracts with customers and suppliers;
  • Provide legal support to central functions, such as Regularly, Quality, Finance, Customer Care, HR;
  • Serve as a member of UK/I Country Leadership Team;
  • Partner with Global Compliance and our local Compliance Specialists to drive our Compliance Program within the geography. Chair the UK/I Compliance Committee. Advise on internal investigations;
  • Collaborate with other members of the Global Legal Department on matters pertaining to M&A/integrations, IP, Data Protection and Product Liability;
  • Provide advice to the leaders of our manufacturing facilities (Galway, Cork, Clonmel, Farnham) on strategically important matters; 
  • Develop/maintain efficient legal processes and templates that appropriately mitigate risk;
  • Keep current on legal developments and impart knowledge to colleague by delivering training and communications;
  • Participate in special change projects or EMEA / Global initiatives;
  • Instruct and manage outside counsel


We are seeking candidates with the following attributes:

  • Qualified to practice law in any UK jurisdiction or Ireland with 7+ years PQE.
  • Experience advising pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device companies, including rules governing HCP interactions.
  • Understands the basic organization and structure of the healthcare systems in UK and/or Ireland, including relating to procurement processes
  • Comfortable working directly with high-energy, innovative business clients
  • Energetic self-starter that can operate and make decisions autonomously
  • Clear and concise communicator (verbally and in writing)
  • Ability to triage and prioritize a heavy workload
  • Committed to fostering an inclusive and positive working culture within the company
  • Available for occasional travel within Europe



This position will ideally be located in the United Kingdom but applicants based in Ireland will also be considered. Boston Scientific's modern workplace includes remote, onsite and hybrid roles. The UK/I hub office is in Hemel Hempstead and the successful candidate would be required to attend the office for certain meetings.
