ROLE OVERVIEW
This graduate assignment will support Project Constellation in designing a more efficient, data-driven warehouse operating model. The student will analyze inventory placement, material flow, picking patterns, replenishment, and space utilization to identify opportunities to improve warehouse productivity and service levels. The work will help establish a fact-based blueprint for warehouse design and operating decisions that can be tested, refined, and scaled.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Capture and structure inventory, item, order, and warehouse-location attributes required for analysis.
- Map current warehouse layouts and flows, including pallet areas, flow racks, static racks, inbound movement, replenishment paths, and picking routes.
- Assess the three-level picking model: conveyor picking, overflow picking, and pallet/case picking.
- Analyze bin-slotting opportunities using order frequency, item velocity, location rating, and travel distance.
- Evaluate product affinity and package-deal relationships to determine which products should be stored or handled together.
- Assess replenishment strategies, pick-frequency heat maps, space utilization, and end-to-end warehouse flow efficiency.
- Quantify operational impact using measures such as pick productivity, travel time, accuracy, inventory turns, and service performance.
