Accountant, Portugal

Location: in our offices in Lisbon, on a hybrid working schedule (3 days/week in the office + 2 days/week working from home).

 

About the Role:

We are looking for a new talent who will join our company as Accountant, where they will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with internal and external requirements, and timely reporting.

The selected candidate will join the Iberia Finance team and will report directly to the Accounting Manager for Portugal.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and posting accounting journal entries in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Performing account reconciliations and investigating variances.
  • Actively contributing to the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Reviewing financial statements and accounting reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Preparing both group reporting and statutory financial statements, in line with local and US GAAP requirements.
  • Supporting external audits and tax inspections, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Assisting in the preparation of tax returns (e.g., VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax).
  • Executing payments using the company’s home banking systems.
  • Providing support to business units on matters related to credit cards, employee expenses, and other finance-related topics.

 

What are we looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in an accounting role, ideally in a multinational or regulated industry.
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and local Portuguese accounting standards.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Proficiency in SAP and experience with SAP ERP S/4HANA is considered a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, multicultural, and dynamic team environment.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience with Global Business Services
  • Immediate availability or short notice is considered a strong asset.
