R&D Clinical Optimization Scientist, Neuromodulation

Location: This is a remote-based position. The candidate should reside within the Madrid area.

 

About the Role:

 

The R&D Clinical Optimization Scientist serves as a technical expert who dedicates a significant amount of time in the clinic to drive the optimization of patient outcomes in Neuromodulation.

 

The position entails two primary responsibilities:

  • playing a crucial part in the development of new therapies from concept through commercialization;
  • spending time in the clinic with patients who have already undergone commercial treatments to gain first-hand experience, support the execution of exploratory clinical studies, and conduct research in the form of analytics, modelling, or algorithm development.

 

The ideal candidate should possess excellent collaboration skills and be able to work effectively with external stakeholders (e.g., physicians and patients) as well as internal colleagues (including other R&D engineers and members of other company functions).

 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Working to develop/enhance understanding of neuromodulation programming and algorithms through exploratory research activities and observations from commercial field experience.
  • Performing advanced programming to provide improved pain therapy to patients.
  • Liaising with field teams to identify clinical needs and constraints related to patient care.
  • Preparing reports/presentations to convey learnings to internal team members.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art commercial neuromodulation therapies and capabilities.
  • Developing algorithms and conduct analyses to enhance therapy offerings.
  • Participating in meetings and planning sessions to advance therapy optimization.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

What are we looking for in you:

  • Degree in biomedical or life sciences, preferably in neuroscience. PhD level or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proficient in Spanish and English; other languages, such as French or Italian, are a plus.
  • Must be passionate and enthusiastic about spending time with people more than with computers.   
  • Strong background in statistics, analytics, and programming (e.g., Matlab, Python, C, etc.)
  • Excellent scientific writing skills, demonstrated by first-author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical presentation skills.
  • Prior experience in patient management, execution of clinical studies, and/or project management.
  • Previous experience dealing with customers in the medical field and representing the technical side of a company is a plus.  Candidate with 3+ years of medical device experience is highly desired.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a remote-based position. The candidate should reside within the Madrid area.
  • This position will require significant field and travel of up to 65% and office work of approximately 35%.
