Purpose Statement

A Vice President, Program Management is a general manager of a business unit of product and technology development programs.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • People Management: Leads division project management function effectively; provides input to functional directors and VPs on team performance.
  • Product/Technology Management: Defines and directs the technical approach to technology application and new product development; identifies, communicates, and manages division-level technical risk.  Sets direction for new product development.
  • Project/Program Management: Shapes key project management processes and initiatives; develops and implements division-level business plan; builds team ownership and commitment to program and business plans.  Participates in industry-wide program management initiatives.
  • Process Management: Leads and approves TDP/PDP, policy, and practice improvements to drive functional excellence; sets policies for key projects and programs; approves implementation plans for new program management systems.  Actively influences cross-functional and cross-divisional efficiencies in program management.
  • Communications and Reviews: Creates a climate of open division-level communications.  Shares business knowledge information and solutions with functional management, business planning, and PIB.  Resolves cross-functional issues.  Represents division to the business community (internal and external).
  • May act as Franchise general manager through acquisition of a business unit of product and technology development programs.  Set vision, develop strategy and lead organization in executing a successful commercial growth strategy for a business unit.  Oversee execution plans to achieve deal model objectives including deal revenue, operating income and synergies.
  • May have full accountability for the overall strategic direction and well as execution of the business strategy for a business unit.
  • May determine or provide input to the optimal long-term strategy and positioning for new technologies as well as new applications for existing technology of a business unit.

 

Quality Systems Requirements 

In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

 

For those individuals that supervise others, the following statements are applicable:

  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.

 

Management Requirements

  • May lead a group or team of employees in the achievement of organizational goals.  Guide, coach, direct, and develop direct reports, and if applicable, drive those practices throughout their organization.
  • Foster a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.
  • May direct and control the activities and budget of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups, projects/programs and/or operations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. federal/country and regulatory requirements).

Acts independently, guided only by very broad company policies and objectives.  Makes final decisions on administrative or operational issues affecting major segments or activities of the site(s) function, plant, division, or region. Participates with other top managers in developing and establishing site(s) function, plant, division, and / or region wide policies. Develops and communicates a strategic vision for a division or business unit; participates in the development of the company vision.

 

Supervisory Relationships

Responsible, through Director level management, for overall site or corporate staff function or for one or more functions in a plant, business unit, division, or region.  Determines actual organizational structures and allocation of subordinate management responsibilities.

 

Operations Involvement/Direct Work Involvement

Responsible for the overall strategic management and operation success of assigned functions and for successfully integrating these activities with those of other major organizational segments. Monitors progress of assigned functions or business units toward organizational goals; monitors company-wide indicators such as market share and profitability; monitors the external environment including changes in the political and social climates, economic trends, market conditions, and international business. Makes recommendations regarding problems that cross multiple organizational areas; provides creative solutions to key problems facing the organization; anticipates changing demands or environments and initiates action to position the company appropriately.

   

Impact

Decisions affect the success of the function, division, or region.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in failure to achieve critical goals and objectives.

 

Liaison

Serves as a principal spokesperson for the function of the division on highly significant matters.
