About the role:
We are seeking a strong strategic leader to oversee upstream and downstream HEMA initiatives for a rapidly growing and market-leading Boston Scientific franchise. The HEMA Director for the Interventional Oncology & Embolization business has responsibility for developing and directing global strategies, to ensure successful market access and meaningful health economics research. This is a highly visible and influential role, representing the HEMA function as a member of the cross-functional IO&E business team.
 
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and execution of global HEMA strategies for the IO&E businesses, for the entire IO&E portfolio, including implantable and single use devices, therapeutics, and brachytherapy. 
  • Lead execution of up and down-stream HEMA strategies in the US and support implementation in global markets.
  • Proactively identify reimbursement pathways for portfolio pipeline (coding/coverage/payment) 
  • Monitor and proactively influence health policy developments that impact reimbursement of BSC products. 
  • Provide strategic input to portfolio and business development teams, to ensure global health economics and reimbursement needs are incorporated into product development plans.
  • Participate in evidence planning to identify health economics research needs. Collaborate with health economics and clinical colleagues to advance HE research in support of economic value propositions.
  • Direct tactical initiatives for achieving HEMA strategic objectives (e.g., preparation of economic and coverage dossiers for payer negotiations, new code applications, clinical trial reimbursement, customer reimbursement support, and data analytics).
  • Build relationships and effectively communicate with professional societies, policy makers (CMS), industry working groups (AdvaMed, MDMA), hospitals, KOL physicians and commercial payers. 
  • Collaborate with PI HEMA and HEOR colleagues and cross-functional IO&E teams in the development and communication of economic value messages to support product adoption.
  • Identify opportunities for HEMA data analytics, in support of the Interventional Oncology & Embolization business (e.g. market assessments, forecasting, pricing strategies and RWE analyses)
  • Deliver internal training to sales, marketing, clinical, regulatory, and legal colleagues to increase awareness and understanding of health economics and reimbursement competencies and their role in supporting a product’s success.
  • Collaborate with the HEMA Value & Access and Field organization to ensure customer support excellence in reimbursement and facility economics.
  • Direct and manage external reimbursement call center supporting the IO&E businesses
  • Direct and supervise staff as necessary to implement the above strategic and tactical initiatives.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years working in the medical industry, including experience guiding HEMA strategies for a medical device manufacturer.
  • Previous people management experience in the health economics and market access field.
  • Strong knowledge of evolving US health care policy and payment systems, including hospital and physician reimbursement. Familiar with global market access requirements.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate complex health policy and financial information to diverse stakeholder groups
  • Strong business acumen and experience working with various internal business partners (including Sales, Sales Training, Marketing, and Clinical).
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with medical claims data.
  • Experience working with functional and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with health policy development and Federal rule making processes (e.g. CMS).

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with implantable and single use devices, therapeutics, and brachytherapy.
  • An advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH or MHA in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research, or similar discipline.
  • Ability to train sales team members both individually and in group settings in the use of economic tools such as calculators, presentations, and messaging in a compliant manner.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com--will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

 

Compensation for exempt, non-sales roles may also include variable compensation, i.e., annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
