R&D Manager


About the role: 
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal R&D Engineer supporting Coronary Therapies projects within the Interventional Cardiology division.  This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission.
Provides engineering supervision and technical leadership to employees who are responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating new product development in early development and/or fully defined within the Interventional Heart Failure Franchise. Ensures that program objectives are determined and met, logistics are effectively coordinated, and budgets are adhered to. May interface with users to define user and product requirements and/or necessary modifications. Verification: Responsible for developing, applying and maintaining quality standards for products.


Your responsibilities: 

  • Single point of contact and leader a portion of new product development activities happening across the interventional heart failure franchise. Attend local meetings and partner closely with Project Management, process development and Design Assurance to ensure good communication and project tracking across multiple Boston Scientific sites.
  • Develops direct reports by securing appropriate training, assigning progressively challenging tasks, applying progressive disciplinary action as appropriate and conducting formal written and verbal performance reviews.
  • Monitors daily work operations and provides direction and guidance to team members, experienced exempt employees, or skilled nonexempt staff to achieve unit or project goals.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers, by meeting regularly, responding to requests and explaining procedures.
  • Interprets and executes policies that affect work processes and personnel within the assigned organizational unit.
  • Contributes to the development of operational policies and procedures that affect personnel within the assigned organizational unit.
  • Monitors compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations etc).
  • Monitors internal and external indicators by reviewing reports and newsletters, reading organizational literature, meeting with peers and reading departmental reports.
  • Contributes to the development and monitoring of area budget through regular analysis of cost and spending.
  • Solves engineering problems by analyzing the situation and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Provides guidance and support of personnel and project activities.
  • Mentors Engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
  • Analyzes and coordinates testing 


What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Biomedical or Mechanical) or a related field with 9 – 11 years of experience. Master's degree preferred 
  • Testing or development experience in a Class II or III medical device regulated environment 
  • Experience in mentoring team members
  • Capacity to multi-task several testing activities concurrently
  • Excellent Communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with proficiency in English (verbal and written). 
  • A positive attitude, innovative and creative thinker.
  • Responsible risk taking and risk management.
