About the role:

The Materials Testing, Analysis, and Characterization (MTAC) Lab drives innovation, ensures quality, and enhances patient safety in BSC devices from early-stage inception to post-commercial support through our world-class lab and cutting-edge materials analysis and insights. As an MTAC intern, you will learn testing and analysis techniques for polymer materials characterization in a world-class lab using state-of-the-art mechanical, thermal, and rheological testing equipment. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of polymer-related materials opportunities in the medical device field and have an opportunity to contribute to MTAC’s effort to continuously improve our understanding of key polymers used in medical devices and polymer analytical test techniques.

Your responsibilities will include:  

  • With guidance, propose analytical test strategies for material characterization or problem-solving.
  • Develop your technical and analytical skills through mentorship, hands-on lab experience, and training while working with other members of the lab.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to learn more about key polymers used in medical devices and about test techniques that can be used to characterize these materials.
  • Conduct analytical testing on polymers using techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), rotational rheometry, tensile, and dynamical mechanical analysis (DMA).
  • Prepare samples according to standard operating procedures and ensure proper documentation of test conditions and results.
  • Analyze and interpret data; summarize and present findings to other members of the lab.
  • Comply with laboratory safety and quality standards.

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Current rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - May 2028), graduating senior (May 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.  
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or graduate degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Polymers Science and Engineering (minors also accepted)
  • Must be able to start internship on May 18th or 26th, 2026 and work for 12 weeks
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with polymer testing techniques through university laboratory experience or engineering internship or co-op.
  • Interest in polymers and material characterization; some polymers coursework background is recommended.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or in a team environment.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
