We are searching for a Machine Vision Engineer III to join our Equipment Engineering group in Maple Grove, MN. As a Machine Vision Engineer III, you will be part of a team of talented engineers and automation specialists who create and support automated solutions for our manufacturing and new product development customers.  You will support the development, implementation, and support of automated equipment, inspection systems and software systems for medical device manufacturing.  This role has a hands-on approach in equipment development including automation and controls design, electro-mechanical systems, industrial and collaborative robots, and computer hardware and software support.  This enables us to support and develop a wide range of legacy and new technology solutions across the full spectrum of manufacturing capability from high volume automation to low volume manual assembly. 

 
Your Responsibilities Will Include: 

  • Designs Vision systems including specifying cameras, lighting and lensing requirements.   

  • Provides leadership role on championing functional best practices and new technology initiatives 

  • Influences and defines functional, departmental and divisional procedures through involvement with cross-functional engineering initiatives 

  • Understands and applies functional best practices.   

  • Participates on project teams to develop clear specifications, evaluates feasibility of concepts, and provides formal estimates for vision system designs. 

  • Participates on project teams that include Designers, Engineers and Technicians in the design, assembly, and debug of equipment. 

  • Integrates machine vision systems into a PC or PLC based system. 

  • Communicate costs and project status to project lead. 

  • Collect and analyze inspection results to prove robustness of vision system changes. 

  • Complete project deliverables and monitor project schedule and scope changes to assure team can meet delivery requirements. 

  • Completes FDA/QSR software requirements by assisting in the creation of specifications and qualifications. 

  • Provides training as required to ensure that the software/vision solutions can be operated effectively. 

  • Troubleshoot machine vision and controls systems using pneumatic and electrical schematics. 

  • Creates supporting design documentation. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical field 

  • 4+ years of vision system design and automation system design experience 

  • Proficient user with Cognex (Insight, Designer, VPro) and/or Keyence products (similar system usage will be considered)

  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts 

  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paces and deadline-oriented environment   

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
