About the role:
As a Pharmaceutical Sciences Intern at Boston Scientific, you will help develop and characterize drug-eluting coatings that improve patient outcomes in vascular interventions. You’ll work with experts in chemistry, materials science, and biomedical engineering, while sharing your findings with project teams, managers, and senior leadership. This internship offers the chance to make visible contributions in a high-impact area of the company. We seek a self-starter who thrives in the lab, tackles open-ended problems, and communicates science clearly across all levels of the organization.
The role is based in Maple Grove, MN and follows an onsite work model.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design and execute laboratory experiments to develop, characterize, and optimize drug coatings, formulations, and test methods.
- Perform analytical testing and data analysis (e.g. HPLC, imaging, microscopy, or similar methods) to evaluate coating performance and interpret results with statistical rigor.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, scientists, and technicians to address chemistry-related challenges across exploratory, technology development, or product development projects.
- Document and communicate results through technical reports, presentations, and discussions with senior staff, project teams, and leadership.
- Contribute to innovation and problem-solving by identifying opportunities to improve formulations, test methods, or scientific understanding.
- Operate as a self-starter by independently driving project tasks forward while seeking guidance and mentorship on BSC systems and resources.
Required Qualifications
- Current PhD candidate in Chemistry, Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Pharmacology.
- Expected graduation date no later than June 2027.
- Must have approval from their academic advisor(s) to participate in a full-time summer internship.
- Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 18th – August 7th OR May 26th – August 14th.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove, MN Boston Scientific Corporate location.
- Hands-on laboratory experience in experimental design, execution, and documentation.
- Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, electron microscopy, or optical imaging.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods, with experience using relevant software tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with drug-eluting devices, formulation development, benchtop drug elution models, or preclinical/animal studies.
- Experience working in a regulated environment or industry, with awareness of documentation and compliance expectations.
- Strong scientific communication skills, with experience presenting results to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
- Adaptability in addressing open-ended scientific problems and shifting project needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
