Cardiology Division:

Boston Scientific Interventional Cardiology technologies help patients manage vascular, rhythm, and structural diseases of the heart.  Our solutions include the ACURATE Transaortic Valve System, the AGENT drug coated balloon and the AVVIGO+ Guidance System.

About the role:

 

We are looking for an innovative Principal R&D Engineer to join our team. You will research, design, develop, and test medical devices, serving as a technical lead for guidewire technology across multiple disease states and project teams. The ideal candidate has a background in mechanical engineering or materials science and a strong track record of impactful contributions. This in-person role is based in Maple Grove, MN, with a minimum of 4 days on-site per week.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Subject-matter-expertise in guidewire technology – materials, construction, performance characteristics.
  • Liaison to multiple development teams to advise and assist in developing solutions spanning a wide range of disease states and technologies, including Structural Heart, Interventional Heart Failure, Complex Coronary Disease, Imaging & Guidance
  • Leads exploratory and technology development project teams. Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
  • Interacts with Key Opinion Leaders to understand clinical needs and advance technology solutions. 
  • Familiar with clinical environment, patient anatomy and applies it to guidewire technology development
  • Advances intellectual property portfolio for BSC competitive advantage
  • Independently conducts development work as part of a major research and/or development project.

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or more from an accredited school in Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience engineering with a Bachelor’s degree OR 5+ years of engineering work experience with a Master’s degree
  • 4+ years of experience in the medical device industry
  • Experience as a hands-on design and project engineer in the medical device industry, responsible for new product designs, materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Experience executing projects through commercial launch
  • Ability to work onsite at our Maple Grove, MN location 4+ days per week

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • Preferred background in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
  • Experience involving/supporting
    • Vascular Guidewires
    • Animal studies, preclinical studies, and clinical studies to evaluate the usability and performance of designed products
    • Cadaver lab research
    • Field research
