About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal R&D Engineer supporting Structural Heart projects within the Interventional Cardiology division. Structural Heart is an exciting growth driver for BSC.  This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission.  This role supports a major product line with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

 

The R&D role will lead a technical team to develop new delivery system products for our left atrial appendage occlusion franchise.  The role will include identifying ways to stream line the implant procedure to further improve outcomes and deliver additional physician satisfaction.  These investments in new technology will drive a robust pipeline for left atrial appendage occlusion that will keep BSC in a market leadership position.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Create a strong team culture around high expectations & high performance
  • Facilitate crisp decision making around key technical issues
  • Lead technology integration & knowledge transfer within domain of responsibility
  • Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates
  • Lead the design & execution of structured experimental plans to drive data-based decisions
  • Collaborate with cross functional team members throughout the phase-gate development cycle and into commercialization
  • Understanding of the clinical work flow and cardiac structures
  • Development of procedural accessories and delivery tools and to provide best possible patient outcomes and physician satisfaction
  • Leverage internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives
  • Successfully completes engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test method development, specification development, bench & preclinical studies.
  • Interface with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Providing work direction to other members of the technical team

 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 7+ Years with BS, 5+ Years with MS
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership on a large-scale development program
  • Experience in design simulation tools and analysis techniques
  • Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy.
  • Experience managing technical aspects of projects as a member of a large cross-functional core team
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Demonstrated product development leadership and communication skills
  • Experienced with multi-faceted technology and product development programs
  • Prior experience with complex delivery systems and accessories
  • Demonstrated experience with injection molded components
  • Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
  • Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge
  • Prior material selection experience for implantable cardiac devices
