About the role:

The R&D Associate Director has responsibility for the BSC Peripheral Interventions Vascular Clot Management portfolio.  Primary responsibilities include the identification, development, and implementation of strategic initiatives, new product development programs and management development.  This innovative and passionate leader energizes the organization by driving transformation and change to support strategies focused on customers, patients, shareholders, and employees.

 

Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies new strategies and projects for the innovation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications.

  • Develops capabilities and skills related to technology, disease state understanding and product development processes.

  • Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth.

  • Active participant in new business development, due diligence and integration.

  • Leads technology advancements for the division.

  • Develops and ensures budgets and schedules meet divisional requirements.

  • Drives transformation and change within the R&D function.

  • Creates and champions product and process improvement efforts.

  • Has extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists and leverages them to influence project selection and initiation. 

  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional partners to determine short- and long-term product strategies and technologies.

  • Ensures robust product development process practices and implementation of functional excellence initiatives.

  • Encourages problem-solving processes leading to solutions that can be leveraged.

  • Ensures sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions.

  • Responsible for performance management, succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.

  • Leads a group or team of employees in the achievement of organizational goals. 

  • Guides, coaches, directs, and develops direct reports, and if applicable, drive those practices throughout their organization. 

  • Identifies, mentors, coaches and develops junior staff to enable a strong bench of engineering talent to build key capabilities to execute the strategy.

 

 

What We’re Looking for in You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applicable field.

  • 10+ years technical professional experience.

  • 5+ years people management and project leadership expertise.

  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of direct reports (developing successful employees and teams, coaching and managing both high performers and poor performance, structuring teams for success and change).

  • A passion for leading and developing teams and employees into high performers, while motivating teams for optimal success.

  • The ideal candidate possesses the following characteristics:

    • Highly motivated leader with strong focus of winning as a team.

    • Action oriented strategic thinker, with a natural ability to collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders.

    • Communicates impactfully and concisely at a senior management level and across business units.

    • Engages and influences cross-functional colleagues, even without direct reporting relationships.

    • Seeks to reduce and eliminate bureaucracy while cultivating open and candid communication across the division and team.

  • An advanced degree MBA, MS or PhD is preferred.
