R&D Engineer II


About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer II supporting Structural Heart projects within the Interventional Cardiology division. Structural Heart is an exciting growth driver for BSC.  This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC’s mission.  This position supports a major product category with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.


The R&D Engineer II will support product design and development aspects within the TAVR accessories & adjunctive technologies portfolio. The candidate will work closely with the cross-functional R&D team to close knowledge gaps, define the product design, and develop requirements and methods.  Strong communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills are the skill-sets required of this position.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop new technology, products, materials, methods, and/or equipment with minimal supervision
  • Define, communicate, and execute plans for project segment
  • Contribute to technical teams through design prototyping, testing, verification, and validation of new medical devices
  • Translate customer needs through the development of product requirements, specifications, and test methods
  • Close technical knowledge gaps by root cause problem solving, sound engineering experimentation, and rational decision making
  • Analyze, summarize, and report conclusions from complex test results using valid statistical techniques
  • Prepare reports and documentation to communicate results to the technical team
  • Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures
  • Generate innovative solutions and submit invention disclosures, continually seeking intellectual property
  • Demonstrate product and technology development knowledge through delivery of high quality deliverables
  • Up to 20% travel may be required


What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical or a related Engineering field
  • 2+ years of medical device engineering experience
  • Competent in Design of Experiments, statistical methods, & CAD design tools
  • Competent in risk-based design (FMEA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations
  • Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems and a bias for action
  • Hands-on approach to product development
  • Self motivated
  • Detail oriented


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medical device Product Development Process (PDP)
  • Nitinol implatable device and/or catheter delivery system design experience
  • Experience with process engineering/manufacturing methods/design for manufacturability (DFM)
