R&D Engineer II - Acquisition Integration - Peripheral Interventions

As R&D Engineer II, you will primarily support Acquisition Integration in the Peripheral Interventions Division. This role will play a key part in integrating new technologies into Boston Scientific, providing an excellent opportunity to learn and contribute to the design and quality system integration of cutting-edge medical devices. At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. Within the Peripheral Interventions (PI) Division, we design, develop, produce, and sustain technologies for treating peripheral venous and arterial disorders, while also supporting evolving regulatory and standard requirements around product design. We provide solutions to patients that include: Drug-Eluting & Bare-Metal Stents, Catheters, Balloons & Drug-Eluting Balloons, Microspheres, Thrombectomy, and Atherectomy. PI has a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make investments in interventional treatments.
In this role, you will compile, analyze, and report operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, and materials. You will leverage a blend of new and proven technologies, and will help deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians, advancing Boston Scientific’s mission to transform lives.
Responsibilities:
- Fully participating in and successfully contributing to project teams typically including the following activities: product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and process/test documentation.
- Planning and scheduling your activities independently to meet project timelines.
- Designing and coordinating standard engineering tests and experiments.
- Designing, procuring, and fabricating tooling and fixtures.
- Troubleshooting issues related to the design, materials, or process of new products.
- Summarizing, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from test results.
- Preparing standard reports and documentation to communicate results to the technical community.
- Creating and managing engineering documentation, including design prints, parts, and BOMs.
- Working cooperatively with process development, supplier engineering, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing teams to ensure project success.
- Demonstrating knowledge of the product development system through delivery of high-quality deliverables.
- Creating and submitting idea disclosures of concepts and designs for new products.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- BS degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Material Science Engineering.
- 2 or more years of applied engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong hypothesis-driven experimental design and statistical analysis skills.
- Hands-on approach to product development.
- Self-motivation and curiosity with a passion for solving problems.
- Experience with medical device design and/or processes.
- Test method development experience.
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience.
- Familiarity with Boston Scientific quality systems or similar industry standards.
