R&D Fellow - Interventional Cardiology, Maple Grove, MN

 

About the role:

  • An exciting opportunity to join Boston Scientific as a fellow in Research and Development for our Interventional Cardiology division with impact across multiple next generation platforms and technologies including therapeutic and imaging system.
  • This technical leadership role will lead development of complex multiphyscis systems such as next generation atherectomy and/or imaging platforms. 
  • Act as the system achitect and integration lead to drive technical decision with deep understanding in electromechanical system, electrical circuit design, imaging signal processing, ultrasonics, software/harware integration.
  • Drive technology evolution into product, with a fast-fail and collaborative approach to product development.
  • Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Solutions require an in-depth and thorough knowledge of a specialized field and the ability to apply that knowledge in new and innovative ways. Has expert knowledge of the impact of various solutions on the business.
  • Defines projects and work tasks based on identified strategy and goals. Plans and organizes project assignments of substantial variety and complexity, including project resource requirements, budgets, schedules and milestones.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • As the tech lead to drive new product development to meet customer needs in interventional cardiology.
  • Responsible for technical ldecisions that may have significant impact to the company. Develops advanced ideas and guides their development into a final product, program, or process.  Determines emerging trends and provides information across functional boundaries in areas of expertise.
  • Recruit & mentor high potential technical talent.
  • Selects and applies advanced analy+tic and simulation tools to enhance product performance and/or manufacturing processes.
  • Defines and/or assists with material characterization efforts to facilitate development and implementation of numerical analysis solutions.
  • Facilitates communication of advanced mathematical results to R&D product design teams in an appropriate fashion to enhance their visualization and understanding of device function and interaction with its environment.
  • Fields initial requests from R&D teams and makes recommendations relative to proposed concepts/approaches.
  • Performs technical consultative function and internal company perspective to R&D teams.
  • Interfaces with Physicians/Cath lab personnel to identify needs and to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices that influence future business recommendations and enhances BSC’s Intellectual Property portfolio.
  • Combines internal and external (outsourced) sources, improve our capabilities to establish and work with institutions, external companies, networking, and leveraging contacts in various industries and research organizations across the globe.

 

 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Eletrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering fields.
  • Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 9 years with BS, or 7 years with MS, or 5 years with PhD
  • Strong system engineering skills over a broad range of products/applications.
  • Knowledge of software architecture and firmware development.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead high performing technical teams through a structured approach to solving complex technical problems.
  • Strong knowledge of design controls & risk management practices
  • Personal drive, individual accountability & a strong bias for action
  • Strong personal credibility & excellent communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or Phd in Eletrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering fields with 10+ years development experience.
  • Medical device experience in capital system (electromechanical and/or imaging products) development with hardware/software integration.
  • Expereince in medical ultrasounic imaging.
  • Working knowledge of advanced analyatics as input to product design.
  • Ability to interface effectively with customers to gather insights.
  • Track record of develop and launch products with commerical success.
