About the role:

Do you have a broad interest in materials science and analytical chemistry? This role supports a customer service materials characterization lab by providing peer review of data, documentation, and interpretation of testing results. While not a hands-on lab role, it requires strong scientific judgment to support R&D engineers and scientists in delivering high-quality materials science and analytical chemistry testing. This position plays a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in documentation and lab practices.

 

Work Mode

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform peer review of analytical test and materials characterization data using both paper and electronic systems with minimal supervision.
  • Review data intended for regulatory submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance lab efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead initiatives to improve documentation practices and potentially supervise contingent workers for short-term projects.
  • Initiate or facilitate laboratory investigations (OOS/OOT, deviations, non-conformances) based on review findings.
  • Write and revise methods, procedures, and work instructions; contribute to protocols, reports, SOPs, and technical documents.
  • Support special projects and compliance oversight within or outside the characterization lab.
  • Review secondary lab documentation such as equipment logs, verification logs, and training records.
  • Assist with internal audits and assessments of testing labs.
  • Collect, analyze, and trend quality indicator data to support lab goals and management reviews.
  • Support transitions to new laboratory systems as needed.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory scientist/engineer role or in peer/quality review or technical writing.
  • BA/BS degree in chemistry, materials science/engineering, biology, biochemistry, or a related field—or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with good documentation practices and familiarity with ISO and/or quality systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in a regulated, audit-facing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience performing and interpreting non-standard materials science testing.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Trios, Minitab, Empower, and OMNIC/OMNIC Paradigm software.
  • Knowledge of polymer sample preparation and various mechanical and analytical testing methods.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback on documentation.
  • Prior experience at Boston Scientific.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
