About the role:

Boston Scientific is looking for someone with knowledge and passion for healthcare administration, healthcare delivery and health economic analytics. Then you may be an excellent candidate for an Analyst role within our Health Economics and Market Access team supporting Boston Scientific’s Interventional Cardiology business. 


A fundamental priority for this position will be overseeing the development and implementation of health policy and reimbursement initiatives, through collaboration with cross-functional colleagues and external stakeholders for two franchises within the Interventional Cardiology (IC) business. The expectation is that the candidate will have strong healthcare data analytic capabilities and will serve as an advisor to HEMA and cross-functional IC colleagues.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Primary owner and driver of HEMA analytics and analytics resources to address reimbursement, coding and documentation inquiries from divisional sales force and key external stakeholders (e.g., hospitals, clinicians, investigator sites, professional societies).
  • Recommend, create, maintain and update health economic and reimbursement resources for the business unit, including coding guides and reimbursement calculators.
  • Lead the development of key HEMA tools and resources to facilitate high priority launches and emerging procedures.
  • Create, update and monitor effectiveness of Reimbursement and HEMA tools, resources, and calculators to meet sales and customer expectations in highlighting the value of Boston Scientific IC technologies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the business and our DRA team. The Analyst will assist in prioritizing projects (with guidance from the franchise HEMA Manager/Director), work with DRA to align on data resources, define research criteria (i.e. applicable codes for evaluating the business question) and evaluate results for presentation back to the business.
  • Utilize knowledge of available data assets (e.g. Medicare claims data, CMS payment information) to identify research opportunities and define/execute analyses in support of business unit objectives.
  • Define and conduct reimbursement analytics research relating to health policy and medical coverage policies, treatment guidelines, Medicare reimbursement, and procedure trends. Synthesize meaningful insights and actionable analysis by building databases to combine and analyze various data sources.
  • Assist in developing and communicating value messages for Coronary IC and Structural Heart business units by providing health economic/reimbursement data and support for internal and external customers.
  • Conduct reimbursement financial analysis projects to aid in health economic data analysis, health policy strategy development and ongoing health policy analysis, to enable new or ongoing coding, coverage and payment initiatives.
  • Develop and promote analytical best practices within and across product franchises. Research and apply new techniques for advanced analyses, create, monitor, review, and improve methods and techniques continuously.
  • Monitor and assess health policy updates impacting the business’ emerging technologies and commercially marketed products. Develop related communications to inform senior management
  • Address reimbursement, coding and documentation inquiries from divisional sales force and key external stakeholders (e.g., hospitals, clinicians, investigator sites, professional societies).
  • Generate materials and provide appropriate in-service reimbursement support and training to sales, marketing, to increase awareness and understanding of coding and reimbursement competencies and their role in supporting a product’s success.
  • Oversee and provide reimbursement support to BSC sales force and key external stakeholders as appropriate (e.g., hospitals, clinicians, investigator sites, professional societies) by writing or electronic communications, along with visiting, hosting or participating in events.
  • Educate, inform, and highlight changes in reimbursement coverage, coding, and payment to assist with fundamental understanding of the reimbursement landscape for key internal BSC stakeholders, sales, physicians, and hospital partners.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary education in healthcare related field
  • 4+ year experience in medical technology industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. healthcare systems including health policy trends, payment systems (inpatient/outpatient/physician/ASC) and associated documentation/coding requirements.
  • Ability to advance initiatives independently and in a fast-paced matrix environment with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, manage multiple projects
  • Experience working as part of both functional and cross-functional teams
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau, SalesForce)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, health care administration or related discipline highly desirable.
  • Experience within medical device industry
  • Familiarity with interventional cardiology / structural heart procedures and products
  • Coding certifications (e.g. Certified Cardiovascular Coder)
  • Demonstrated responsiveness and sense of urgency when pursuing goals and completing tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, manage multiple projects
  • Experience working as part of both functional and cross-functional teams
