About the role
Do you have knowledge and passion with respect to healthcare administration, healthcare delivery and health economics? Do you have the desire to be in a highly visible and influential role in a well-established medical device industry leader? Then you may be an excellent candidate for the Sr. Manager role within our Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) team supporting Boston Scientific’s Interventional Cardiology Business. This position will be responsible for development and implementation of HEMA strategies related to health policy, global market access, evidence generation, value propositions and reimbursement for Coronary Therapies and/or Structural Heart technologies.
 
Location: Maple Grove, MN; can be remote anywhere in the US
 
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and execution of strategies to secure appropriate market access and reimbursement for Boston Scientific products and associated procedures
  • Anticipate, monitor and influence health policy developments that impact Boston Scientific products and customers
  • Partner with global HEMA colleagues to identify evidentiary requirements for regional market access and opportunities for differentiated reimbursement
  • Identify HEMA resource needs for Boston Scientific platform products and lead the development of these resources (e.g. market access dossiers, billing guides, financial calculators)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to define value propositions for new products and products in development
  • Collaborate with professional society policy representatives, payers, and key opinion leaders on policy advocacy and reimbursement initiatives
  • Collaborate with IC leaders and Boston Scientific Health Economists to identify health economic and outcomes research opportunities that will support business objectives
  • Work with new product development teams  to ensure HEMA priorities are incorporated into product development plans and timelines
  • Educate cross-functional colleagues (e.g. sales, marketing, clinical, regulatory) to increase awareness of HEMA competencies and HEMA’s role in supporting a product’s success

 
What we're looking for:
Successful candidates will have technical expertise in the areas of health policy, facility and physician reimbursement and health economics. Candidates will exhibit outstanding communication skills with the ability to present complex information to a broad and diverse group of stakeholders. The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy both strategy and execution. This is a global position with upstream responsibilities globally (e.g. representation of HEMA on product development teams, coordination with global colleagues on market access plans) and downstream responsibilities in the US (e.g. coordination with Marketing/Sales on product launch execution and development of HEMA-focused customer-facing resources). Minimal travel anticipated (est. 1-2 trips/quarter) for team meetings, conferences and customer engagements.
 
Basic Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the medical technology industry and US healthcare systems
  • Minimum 5-years working in the medical device industry and/or healthcare administration, preferably with experience in the interventional cardiovascular specialties
  • Working knowledge of medical reimbursement and documentation practices, including HCPCS codes, CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes, Ambulatory Payment Categories (APCs) and Diagnostic Related  Groups (DRGs) 
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • The desire and capability to contribute to strategy and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, manage multiple projects
  • Experience or desire to work in a fast paced, matrix organized fortune 500 company
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite)

 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent strongly preferred. An advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH, MHA, MS, or MSc in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research, public health, or similar discipline is desirable. 
  • Experienced and knowledgeable regarding Medicare policies and processes including Physician Fee Schedule (PFS), Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS), Two-Midnight Rule, Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Reduction Program, Hospital Readmission Reduction Program (HRRP), Hospital Value-Based (VBP) Purchasing Program, and the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including developing relationships at all levels in an organization and directly influencing business objectives.
  • Familiarity with Medicare claims and other large datasets, and ability to leverage these resources to understand market trends and address health economic questions 
  • Ability to present complex information to both large and small influential groups in a way that is both easy to understand, credible, and engages the audience
  • Ability to develop financial tools that demonstrate to customers how Boston Scientific products will impact their facility or healthcare system 
  • Ability to train sales team members both individually and in groups in the use of economic tools such as calculators, presentations, and messaging in a compliant manner
  • Ability to elicit and interpret customers’ goals, needs, and priorities and creatively address them with Boston Scientific products and programs
