About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity as an R&D Workstream lead to complete integration of key technologies into Boston Scientific’s IC division. The Senior R&D Integration Engineer – catheters role will be dedicated to integrating a key catheter technology in a new and exciting market into the Interventional Cardiology franchise.
As an R&D integration lead, you will be responsible for leading a small high performing R&D team to evaluate and integrate a catheter-based product and the supporting design documentation into the BSC quality system. Working with cross-functional team members, you will develop strategies for aligning quality systems while maintaining product and business continuity. As a key growth driver for IC, this role will come with visibility to key leadership, and as a result, communication & leadership will be paramount. The role will include strategic planning for integration of the technology & DHF/DMR R&D deliverables.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Partner with Quality, Process Development, Operations and other cross-functional team members to develop project integration plans tailored to the unique needs of the product or site
- Actively lead and engage in the Discovery phase of design control practices and documentation to identify commonalities and gaps with BSC systems, including prints, CAD, and risk management documents
- Based on Discovery phase findings, establish design control integration workplans and schedule
- Coordinate, manage, and document the project goals and progress of an R&D team and recommend appropriate integration actions
- Deliver functional project updates to leadership, representing the voice of R&D
- Take an active role in the organization to identify and mitigate issues; work cross-functionally to resolve issues and challenges
- Work with NPD leadership to prioritize tasks and ensure tactical plans meet the larger business strategy
- Develop and implement knowledge transfer strategy for products and technologies into BSC technical community
- Mentor extended team members and help them develop a path to achieve integration goals
- Create a culture of high expectations, accountability, and strong engineering fundamentals
- Develop and provide guidance regarding integration strategies and approaches
Required qualifications:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
- 6+ years of engineering work experience (preferably in medical device or related field) with Bachelor’s degree, 4+ years of engineering experience with a Master’s degree, or 2+ year’s experience with a PhD degree.
- Experience with catheter design and development.
- Experience with Design Controls & Risk Management practices.
- Demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project/task management enabling efficient task completion.
- Experience leading other team members and building strong personal credibility & excellent communication skills.
- Proven technical leadership in medical device or healthcare related industry.
- Ability to travel 25% of time.
Preferred qualifications:
- Engineering experience in interventional cardiology and catheter-based medical devices, especially Class II or Class III medical device development for single use devices as part of a system.
- Experience with technology acquisition & integration.
- Cross-functional experience in working with external manufacturing partners, remote internal manufacturing partners, operations, test engineering and process development.
- Comfortable working ‘in the gray’; known for innovative, out of the box thinking to identify new approaches to meet requirements.
- Experience developing relationships and motivating a high performance technical team.
- Personal drive, individual accountability & a strong bias for action.
- An independent critical thinker; willingness to challenge status quo.
