Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated scientist or engineer with experience in polymer science to work in a biotechnology company. This Senior R&D Engineer will be a Core Team Member in product development for a strategic product in our Interventional Oncology business.  This role will involve complex technology and ability to be at forefront of research and development for our customer-centered approach to serve cancer patients.

 

At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. In Interventional Oncology (IO) we design, develop, and produce technologies for diagnosing and treating cancer as well as other conditions in the abdominal region, including gastric bleeds, uterine fibroids, and aneurysms.  We are able to provide a number of solutions to patients that include drainage catheters, microcatheters, guidewires, microspheres and coils.  We have a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Interventional Oncology treatments.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates PDP/TDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables. 
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.  Experience as a Core Team Member highly desirable.
  • Works independently towards the progress of projects and will support efforts of other technical staff.
  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures.  Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
  • Successfully completes complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation.
  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments. Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
  • Utilizes their skills in the lab to solve technical problems in a hands-on manner.
  • Interfaces with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.  Responsible for engineering documentation.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.

 

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate will possess a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Polymer Science or Material Science with 10 or more years of industry experience or an M.S. with 5 or more years of industrial experience.  The candidate will also have background in medical devices and technical project management expertise. The preferred candidate possesses knowledge of the relationship between polymer structure, morphology, processing, and mechanical properties. Excellent communication and presentation skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite are also desired.
