Senior Engineer, R&D

 

About the role:

The Senior R&D Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical embolic product design and development aspects of in the Interventional Radiology/Interventional Oncology theraupetic device area. 

 

The engineer will be responsible for identifying customer needs and developing creative and innovative design solutions in response. This will include characterization of current device performance and identification through direct user feedback of opportunities for enhancement.  The role will include leading a small team to create and advance innovative design solutions that address these customer needs.  The candidate will lead down-selection of design solutions through feasibility and viability evaluations, as well as playing a key role in the development process to take concept to commercialized product.  This involves highly interactive execution with Quality, Process Development and Marketing functions to deliver a verified and validated commercial product.  Strong communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills are the skill-sets required of this position.

 

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate competitive landscape through clinical and market research, interfacing with physicians, and working close with marketing and program management.
  • Develops new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Develops, communicates, and executes plans for major segments of complex projects.
  • Leads technical teams through design prototyping, testing, verification, and validation of new medical devices
  • Translates customer needs through the development of product requirements, specifications, and test methods.
  • Closes technical gaps by root cause problem solving, sound engineering experimentation, and rational decision making.
  • Analyzes, summarizes, and reports conclusions from complex test results using valid statistical techniques.
  • Generates innovative solutions and submits invention disclosures continually seeking intellectual property.
  • Provides work direction and training to technicians and entry-level engineers.

 

 

What we’re looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or a related Engineering field
  • 5+ years of medical device development experience (3+ years with MS, 2+ years exp. with Ph.D)
  • Competent in Design of Experiments methodology (i.e. Design-Expert), statistical analysis software (i.e. Minitab), and design software (i.e. Solidworks)
  • Self-motivation with a passion for solving problems
  • Hands-on approach to product development

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree - MS / PhD in Engineering or MBA
  • Peripheral Interventions anatomical and medical device experience
  • Experience with medical device Product Development Process (PDP)
  • Experience translating customer needs into product requirements
  • Strong communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills
  • Design and/or advanced processing experience with metals / metal alloys
