About the role:
Responsible for aspects of research development, process development, and quality analysis of products, materials, processes, and/or equipment. Compiles, analyzes, and reports operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, or materials. This level position requires an extensive knowledge base and a high degree of independence and use of discretion.

Please note, this role will ultimately be based in Maple Grove, MN. However, this role will require significant presence (either frequent travel or temporary relocation) in California for approximately the first six months of the role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Participate in and successfully contribute to project teams typically including the following activities: research, design and development including quality testing of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and process/test documentation
- Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines
- Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments to map design inputs to design outputs
- Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures
- Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process
- Analyze, summarize, and draw conclusions from test results to make quality and design recommendations
- Prepare reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community
- Responsible for engineering documentation to complete the design history file
- Research/invent/create concepts and designs for new products/processes, and submit idea disclosures
- Ability to train and/or provide work direction and supervision to technicians
- Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success
- Embrace and explore new innovative ways to do experimentation and data analysis to create the highest quality products
- Plan work, complete hands-on building or testing of prototypes, as well as data analysis, and communicate to stakeholders
- Design process development and equipment development activities in optical fusion splicing, tapering, ball termination, cleaving, polishing, soldering with fusion splicers, CO2 laser fusion splicers, filament fusion splicers, plasma based fusion splicers
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams, including mentorship of early-career engineers/staff in laser/fiber processing technologies
Required qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 10+ years of professional experience in fiber optics processing
- Extensive prior experience in optical fusion splicing, tapering, ball termination, cleaving, polishing, soldering with fusion splicers, CO2 laser fusion splicers, filament fusion splicers, and plasma based fusion splicers
- Experience in fiber laser technologies
- Experience in development of laser and fiber equipment
- Prior experience in fiber optic processing technologies in the medical device industry
- Demonstrated knowledge with engineering fundamentals or similar process optimization tools (LEAN , DFM, etc.) and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Open to travel (domestic and international) up to 15% of time
- Ability and willingness to operate in our California site for approximately the first six months of employment
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience in intravascular lithotripsy therapies
- Demonstrated understanding and usage of statistics to drive improvements
- Demonstrated understanding of problem solving and root cause investigations
- Experience with Process Verification and Validation
- Experience working in a collaborative, cross-site environment
- Expertise in Operations or New Product Development
- Demonstrated cross functional teamwork in technical environment
