About the role:

In IO&E at Boston Scientific, we bring medical devices to market that directly affect the lives of people, potentially even friends or family.  In that context, our Embolization, Access, and Delivery products help interventional radiologists treat patients with bleeding complications, those who are undergoing treatment for various cancers, or even non-invasive procedures that enable larger, more complex surgeries.

We are looking for a positive team member that can add to the positive culture by bringing technical expertise, creativity, and ability to collaborate to support product development from concept through commercialization.  Over time, versatility between exploratory (building a first prototype) to working in a structured project with cross-functional teams, intense documentation, and multiple international regulatory submissions will be needed

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Development of mechanical devices including embolic coils, microcatheters, plugs, guidewires, or something even better that we don’t even know about yet.
  • Written documentation of decisions, including justifications for clinical relevance of test methods, values of product specifications, or setting product dimensional requirements
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with manufacturing, design assurance, regulatory, and project management to ensure designs meet user needs, business requirements, and comply with all regulations
  • Taking direction, working independently, working through others, and contributing to technical strategy within the team…depending on the circumstances
  • Conduct risk assessments, design reviews, and facilitating/organizing verification/validation testing
  • Verbal and written communication to enable effective stakeholder management
  • Mentor junior engineers, technicians, and even interns

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 5 years’ experience in a regulated industry
  • Familiarity with prints & solid modeling
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and project management skills
  • Experience in design and transfer to manufacturing
  • Ability to simplify a problem to first principles of engineering

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in medical devices
  • Experience in test method development
  • Experience with six sigma methodologies (DOEs, capability analysis, etc)
  • Experience with GD&T and utilizing FEA simulations
  • Familiarity with medical device standards and working with global regulatory bodies
  • Knowledge of polymer and metal material properties and processing
