About the role:

The Interventional Cardiology Therapies (ICTx) division at Boston Scientific is a market-leading, $2B+ business with a strong growth trajectory in the coming years. The Boston Scientific ICTx portfolio includes technologies to treat coronary artery disease and structural heart disease.  The Coronary Therapies (CT) franchise within ICTx has a market-leading portfolio of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) tools which align with the physicians PCI workflow of See the vessel, Prepare the lesion, and Treat the disease.  This includes IVUS imaging, physiology wires, cutting balloons, atherectomy systems, angioplasty balloons, drug-eluting stents (DES), drug delivery devices, interventional guide catheters and guidewires, and a broad tool kit of complex PCI products. In CT, we have continued to invest in the portfolio and have worked toward our strategic imperative of transforming into new market categories. It will be key for our future to develop a product pipeline into new spaces.

 

The director of Upstream Marketing will be responsible for definition and execution of CT’s global product portfolio in the key categories of PCIG and Calcium. The director will lead the upstream marketing team and own the category strategic planning and portfolio assessment in partnership with Program Management and R&D. This individual will also engage and set priorities for divisional and corporate new business development (NBD) to fill technology and portfolio gaps through market analytics and competitive assessments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the appropriate cross-functional teams to develop a product cadence and portfolio to maximize the franchise growth potential in both near and long term while operating within the budget norms for the division.
  • Make portfolio prioritization and tradeoff recommendations in an analytical but timely manner in line with the business priorities and evolving needs.
  • Establish relationships with key opinion leaders in the field; analyze and summarize feedback from key opinion leaders, current and potential customers, third party market research and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop team and processes to identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including sizing market opportunities, assessing customer needs and competitive landscape, understanding technology, project execution, and commercial implications, and creating robust business case proposals with detailed financial models.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on new business opportunities with clear conclusions and definitive recommendations for next steps.
  • Exhibit professional maturity and help to foster an open, challenging, stimulating and positive environment that enables colleagues to be their best.

Required qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, and preferably MBA focused on business, marketing, or finance. 
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant marketing experience such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, or medical device.
  • Minimum 5 years leadership experience in portfolio management, upstream marketing, strategy, or new business development.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in functional management.
  • Experience in development and implementation of a structured, practical, fact-based approach to valuation and business plans.
  • Experience leading teams in complex financial modeling, including market, revenue, and investment models. 
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information / ideas / strategies into a cohesive and succinct business strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling and engaging presentations that effectively communicate recommendations. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, estimated 30% travel. 

  

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience related to interventional cardiology, ideally at the director level
  • Strong strategic skill set and proactive cross-functional team player with capability to communicate concisely at a senior management level and across business units 
  • Action oriented strategic thinker, with a natural ability to collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders 
  • Ability to engage and influence cross-functional colleagues, even without direct reporting relationships 
  • Executive presence and ability to influence across multiple levels

 

Work Mode:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office in Maple Grove, Minnesota at least three days per week.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
