Clinical Sourcing Manager
About the Role:
At Boston Scientific, the Clinical Sourcing Manager is responsible for strategically sourcing Boston Scientific’s Clinical and Pre-Clinical Operations category with Boston Scientific’s Global Business Services Organization. The individual will lead cross functional teams in the supplier selection process and guide the various functions to enhance supplier management throughout the organization. The individual will also support the Clinical and Pre-Clinical Operations in developing and executing the company’s outsourcing strategy.
Your Responsibilities Include:
Strategic Sourcing
• Lead cross functional and functional teams in collecting and defining requirements to communicate to
suppliers in a competitive bid process
• Identify and lead the evaluation of suppliers for inclusion in a competitive bid process
• Construct Request for Proposals (RFP) to communicate requirements to suppliers
• Lead the supplier selection team in evaluating RFP responses and bid defense meetings
• Lead commercial negotiations with supplier
• Lead the supplier selection team in final selection
• Finalize contracts with selected suppliers and tracks cost savings and avoidance
• Developing an annual category business plan to assess category, set goals and objectives, analyze
spend, and review plan with key stakeholders for alignment
Supplier Management
• Assist in the development of best practices in supplier management for Boston Scientific’s Clinical and
Pre-Clinical Operations by:
◦ Ensuring selected suppliers are on the company’s Approved Vendor List (AVL)
◦ Identifying metrics and helping to implement with study teams
◦ Developing a process for collecting & reporting performance to the Vendor Advisory Board
◦ Presenting to the Vendor Advisory Board on sourcing and supplier management issues, opportunities, and performance
◦ Working with the study teams to bring resolution to supplier management issues
◦ Working with the Quality and Procurement organizations to evaluate and change a supplier’s AVL
status
Outsourcing Strategy
• Support the development of Boston Scientific’s Clinical and Pre-Clinical Operations outsourcing strategy
by:
◦ Identifying and evaluating suppliers for enhanced partnerships
◦ Obtaining and understanding cost data
◦ Working with Management and the study teams to develop the strategy
◦ Working with Management and the study teams to drive strategy
◦ Issuing Request for Information (RFIs) and RFPs in support of the strategy
◦ Negotiating with CROs and finalizing contracts
◦ Assisting in the tracking of outsourcing performance
What We’re Looking For:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of 6 years professional experience in clinical operations, strategic sourcing or purchasing
function.
• Must have strong communication and presentation skills and be a strategic/tactical/operational thinker.
• Must have strong analytical/problem solving/project management skills and strong computer, technical
skills.
• Ability to properly analyze and present financial data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device
Attributes/Qualifications:
• Capable of acting as a change manger to create new procurement approaches.
• Need to have or develop strong category expertise, be able to effectively articulate, and gain the respect
of internal customers.
• Procurement skills and category experience can be a plus, but candidate must possess a combination of
fundamentals, and ability to quickly absorb new material.
• Sound business judgment and superior analytical skills are required.
• Ability to lead internal organization through a change in procurement culture with strong and decisive
decision making flexible work style and a collaborative customer-oriented view of procurement.
• Ability to take an independent stand and challenge the ideas of site managers and internal stakeholders
while maintaining their respect and confidence.
• Strong negotiation and project management skills
