About the role

The Corporate Strategy Manager will help to execute a broad range of projects and analyses of high importance to Boston Scientific.  Topics will range from portfolio optimization to the support of key M&A decisions, to the exploration and characterization of new growth opportunities.  Often the audience for the Manager’s work product will be Boston Scientific’s senior leadership, including its CEO and CFO, as well as its Board of Directors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Support of BD: Support the Director of Corporate Strategic Analysis and VP of Corporate Strategy in the modeling of potential and active BD targets, as well as the relative prioritization of opportunities.  Help to conduct financial and other due diligence in support of the evaluation of specific opportunities of interest.  Analyze and model markets and companies of current or potential future interest to BSC.  Assist with the cross calibration and assessment of internal vs. external opportunities.
  • Portfolio Analysis and Optimization: Assist in the tracking, reporting and analysis of BSC’s existing business portfolio and R&D pipeline. Perform cross-divisional analysis in support of the optimization of R&D spend.
  • Technology and Market-Related Threat and Opportunity Analysis: Track key technological, market, and competitive developments that could pose threats to or present opportunities for BSC.  Assist in the development of annual presentations to senior leadership on these topics.
  • Tactical Event Analysis and Response: Help to analyze key topics of strategic relevance to BSC on a tactical as-needed basis.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist, as necessary, in the execution of the annual Strategic Planning and Annual Operating Plan processes, including in the development of presentation materials to the BSC Board of Directors.

What we're looking for in you:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.  MBA is helpful but not required.
  • 5 years of experience (3 years for a candidate with an MBA degree) in corporate finance, M&A, financial planning, medical device investment analysis or similarly relevant disciplines
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze business, product development opportunities, and markets both retrospectively and prospectively.  Ability to generate accurate forecasts and analyses of internal and external opportunities. Must have BD modeling experience and strong Excel skills.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills, including: (1) the ability to earn and maintain the respect of senior leaders; and (2) the ability to respectfully disagree with senior leaders and/or generate buy-in around delicate and sometimes unpopular conclusions and mandates
  • Experience as a member of small high-performing teams
  • Domain Knowledge in Medical Devices: Broad domain knowledge within medical devices would be helpful but is not required. Such knowledge could be conferred through educational or consulting experience or other prior work experience.
  • Intellectual Honesty and Courage:  Confidence in politely but persistently defending a well-informed point of view that may not always harmonize with that of a senior leader
  • Entrepreneurial Approach and Work Ethic: An eagerness to identify areas in which value can be created and a tireless willingness to execute against those opportunities in a consistently high-quality manor
  • Unimpeachable ethics and respect for confidentiality
  • Minimal travel associated with the role
