Director, Global Clinical Trial Operations Program Excellence

 

About the role:
Leader of Global Clinical Trial Operations Program Excellence function responsible for leading and overseeing the development and sustainment of global shared service operational processes, tools, and infrastructure that support Boston Scientific-Sponsored Clinical Trials.  Helps to set the multi-year Global Clinical Trial Operations Services operating plan and is responsible for the adequate resourcing to support trial service activities. Drives partnership and collaboration with senior management and clinical leadership across all business divisions to align on the current and future demand for trial support, study prioritization and negotiates service level expectations in line with business needs.  Leader will inform continuous improvement of program and process where applicable that can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery and customer satisfaction 
 
Your responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with Global Clinical Operations Leadership, Corporate Clinical Leadership, Director, Global Clinical Trial Operations Service Delivery, lead efforts to harmonize and standardize operating processes and practices in support of the COE’s trial operations services 

  • Works with Global Clinical Operations Leadership, Corporate Clinical Leadership, Director, Global Clinical Trial Operations Service Delivery, and senior clinical management in the development and overall management of the operating processes, procedures, tools, and resources in support trial operations services

  • Establishes and maintains strong partnerships and maintains connectivity with senior management, clinical leadership and functional partners across corporate, divisions and regions

  • Maintains and tracks each divisional and regional clinical trial portfolio activity for active and planned studies that enable trial operations COE prioritization and resourcing plans

  • Aligns with clinical senior management on service and performance targets and maintains regular, transparent reporting and metrics to track to successful delivery of services, in collaboration with the Director, Global Clinical Trial Operations Service Delivery

  • Establishes and manages a resourcing model and develops talent sourcing strategies to ensure adequate staff to support the trial operations services needs in response to the ever-fluctuating business demand and ensure continuous and uninterrupted delivery  

  • Develops metrics, dashboard tools and deliverables and regular mechanisms to distribute and review trial operations service results and performance, budget alignment, forecasting, portfolio prioritization and other program related matters

  • Informs the continuous improvement and development of processes, tools, and resources to guide consistent and repeatable delivery of high-quality service, including collaborating with Director, Clinical Programs and Infrastructure around requirements for technology to enable trial operations services 

  • Manages and maintains the COE budget and funding model, and in partnership with finance, aligns with business on anticipated and actual costs for trial operations services

  • Collaborates regularly with Director, Global Clinical Trial Operations Service on the emerging risks, service challenges or issues and overall performance to support efforts to inform programmatic improvements to process, procedure, or tools

  • May lead new projects and/or supports complex enterprise-wide projects 

  • Maintains relations and contact with a pipeline of services providers externally who may support fluctuating needs and informs the contracting process with expectations for transparent performance standards in line with those of the internal COE resources

  • Works with direct reports to set clear goals, objectives, and expectations and provides appropriate positive and corrective feedback to maximize performance

  • Creates a motivating workplace; fosters a diverse workplace that attracts and maintains talent

  • Provides direct reports appropriate and necessary resources, both material and informational

  • Coaches’ direct reports; facilitates career and professional development and growth

 

What we’re looking for in you:
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in management, business, or basic science; MBA or PM certification preferred

  • 10+ years of relevant clinical trial operations management work experience in the life science industry (device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare) or company that operates in a highly regulated environment

  • 8+ years’ experience managing teams and leading large-scale complex cross-functional projects

  • Exceptional program management skills, including ability to develop strategy and operationalize a vision into operational business processes and practice for global efforts.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing clinical trials

  • Financial acumen required; budget management experience required

  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel required

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have strong experience/expertise in program management in a global environment, gained through managing large complex projects

  • Results-oriented, analytical, accountable

  • Has applied experience using project and program management methodology and techniques

  • Ability to problem solve, risk management and time management

  • Ability to develop collaborative partnerships that lead to influence and compromise and is able to communicate at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders and members of the team

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures

  • Ability to find innovative ways to resolve problems

  • Demonstrated experience running clinical trial operations; Cardiology experience is not required but preferred 

  • Demonstrated success in building and managing global teams, mentoring, and developing team members

  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility internally and externally

  • Self-starter who is a team player, with the ability to be effective in a dynamic, evolving and fast-paced environment.

  • Possess a high energy level and strong work ethic with a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic environment that strives to exceed expectations. Requires integrity and sound judgment
