About the role: 
The Senior R&D Engineer will be responsible for the product design and development with a focus on developing innovative solutions that address customer needs. The candidate will work closely with the R&D team as well as the interdisciplinary project team (PD, DA, QE, PM) to close knowledge gaps, define the product design, and develop requirements and methods.  Strong communication, collaboration and critical-thinking skills are the skill-sets required of this position.
 
Your responsibilities include: 

  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures.  Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
  • Successfully completes complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation.
  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.  
  • Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments.  Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from test results. 
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment.
  • Interfaces with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Evaluate competitive landscape through clinical and market research, interfacing with physicians, and working close with marketing and program management.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.
  • Demonstrates PDP/TPD system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables.

 
What we’re looking for:
Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or a related Engineering field 
  • 5+ years of medical device development experience (3+ years with MS, 2 years exp. with Ph.D BS in Engineering
  • Competent in Design of Experiments methodology (i.e. Design-Expert), statistical analysis software (i.e. Minitab), and design software (i.e. Solidworks)

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Engineering / MBA / Ph.D
  • Peripheral Interventions medical device experience
  • Experience with medical device Product Development Process (PDP)
  • Self-motivation with a passion for solving problems
  • Hands-on approach to product development
