About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong background in real-world evidence (RWE), health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and the reimbursement landscape within the medical device industry. This individual should also possess a strategic business mindset. As a member of the Urology business unit's Strategic Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) team, you will play a pivotal role in effectively developing and implementing health economics, market access, and reimbursement strategies to expand patient access to the Urologic solutions that our company offers. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing research, market access, policy, and reimbursement activities in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, as well as leading the dissemination of clinical, health economics, and RWE findings.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Evidence Planning (20%)

  • Represent HEMA on core teams for new product development and collaborate on the economic evidence strategy needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external audience to identify key health economic unmet market needs to drive evidence generation and research activities, increasing the scientific share of voice.
  • Track and analyze evolving scientific research and changing landscape within the field of Urology, including emerging evidence of competitive products to identify opportunities for proactive HEMA evidence generation strategy development and effective communications to internal and external stakeholders.

Research Execution (10%)

  • Conduct HEOR research development from start to finish, collaborating with key opinion leaders and internal stakeholders. Activities include, but are not limited to, study design determination, protocol development, analysis execution, abstract development, and manuscript development, working closely with medical writers.
  • Lead or collaborate with Corporate HEOR teams to execute HEMA evidence projects aimed at supporting market access and the adoption of Boston Scientific's key therapies, leading to peer-reviewed publications. These publications may include scientific abstracts, podium or poster presentations, and manuscripts.

Evidence and HEMA Tool Dissemination (30%)

  • Lead the development of HEMA tools, including a pager, slide presentation, and customer-facing tools for internal and external stakeholders to effectively disseminate findings from HEMA publications or reimbursement/market access materials.
  • Lead the dissemination strategy of key HEMA publications and/or HEMA tools to support Urology’s business objectives by communicating the value messaging from the publications and the potential usage of the HEMA tools to the commercial teams.
  • Accurately and effectively convey key findings and messages from available evidence to relevant healthcare stakeholders through collaboration with cross-functional and/or cross-regional teams. This collaboration includes teams such as field HEMA, global value and outcomes (GVOs), product marketing, national account, sales, sales training, corporate communication, integrated communication, and digital marketing.
  • Engage in training sessions for sales, marketing, clinical, regulatory, and legal teams to increase awareness and understanding of health economics research, evidence communication, and HEMA tools.

Market Access and Reimbursement Strategic Development (20%)

  • Collaborate with HEMA analysts on data-driven projects related to the changing local and national policy and reimbursement landscape, as well as market opportunities, disease, and technology trends. The objective is to identify business opportunity areas to enhance patient access and HEMA evidence strategy.
  • Construct strategies and tactics to secure or expand optimal reimbursement for the Urology portfolio, consulting with the Urology reimbursement lead and corporate health policy & reimbursement.

Representation of the HEMA Team within the Supported Franchise(s) (20%)

  • Provide direction and consultation to the HEMA analytic team for the timely execution of various analytical and business data requests, ensuring that the deliverables meet the business expectations Provide hands-on assistance and consultation to the HEMA analytic team for timely execution of various health economic analyses.
  • Catalyze the presence of the HEMA team in franchise-specific forums, ensuring its pivotal role in driving the business's success.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent) or Master's degree (M.S., M.P.H., or equivalent) in health policy, health economics, outcomes research, public health, healthcare administration, health services research, or a similar discipline. 
  • 5+ years of work experience in medical industry, including medical device, pharmaceutical, consulting or biotechnology companies or with government agencies, such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) or a similar agency.
  • Understanding of global and US healthcare reimbursement, policy, advocacy, and market access landscapes.
  • A solid understanding of Real-World Evidence (RWE) research designs, Cost-Effectiveness Analysis/Budget Impact Analysis (CEA/BIA) models, Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR), Indirect treatment comparison (network meta-analysis (NMA), matching adjusted indirect comparisons, etc.), with the ability to critically evaluate and improve study design and data sources.
  • Proficiency in acquiring, cleaning, organizing, and communicating data, including proficiency with visualization techniques.
  • Experience with peer-reviewed publications in high-impact medical journals (tier 1) and reputable medical journals (tier 2).
  • Hands-on experience with large payer database analysis, protocol development, interpretation of data, and synthesis of data to generate reports.
  • Proficiency in programming using Instant Health Data (IHD), R, Python, Stata, or SAS (multiple languages preferred), as well as economic modeling using TreeAge or Excel.
  • Ability to translate and simplify technical and research findings from peer-reviewed publications into simplified, compelling messages for different healthcare stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience developing interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple functional areas.
  • Demonstrate leadership and project management skills in driving innovative process improvements, collaborating with colleagues to effect change without formal authority.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as advancing initiatives independently in a fast-paced, matrix environment while being flexible to address competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
  • Domestic travel estimated at 15%, including overnight travel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Successful experience in effectively overseeing and adapting evidence dissemination strategies within new and rapidly changing organizational environments.
  • Experience working on research or initiatives and clinical knowledge of urologic conditions, including erectile dysfunction, women’s health, prostate cancer, kidney stones, and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Demonstrated success in advocating for and influencing healthcare policy changes at state or federal levels, with the ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
