About the role

Boston Scientific’s Stone franchise is the global market leader with a broad portfolio of tools and solutions for the treatment of Kidney Stones.  As the Stone R&D Director and co-leader of the stone franchise team you will have input in shaping our investment strategy and responsibility for executing a portfolio of activities to support the business product life cycle including new product development, sustaining and strategic commercial activities.  This role requires a mix of technical and biomedical knowledge, business acumen, fact-based decision making, project management expertise, and collaborative stakeholder management.

 

  • Primary responsibilities include directing all aspects of R&D for the franchise.  This will include developing the R&D portfolio strategy, product & technology development, influencing franchise & divisional strategy, supporting Business Development activity and developing organizational talent.

  • The ideal candidate will have good clinical knowledge of the Urology space and specifically the Stone business.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Recruits, coaches and develops organizational talent, while fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace and culture that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.

  • Drive and Inspire team to the next level of performance through a cultural evolution of Elevate Energize Empower (EEE)

  • Partners closely with peers in Marketing, Finance, R&D, Clinical, Quality, Operations, and Regulatory to develop and execute a product portfolio designed to continue our global leadership position. 

  • Leadership Influence to continuously improve the Franchise Leadership Teams.

  • Accountable for the cost, schedule, and performance of all PDPs within the franchise.

  • Partners closely with finance and the Marketing Director to represent the franchise in key financial processes such as Portfolio, AOP and forecasting. 

  • Builds internal and external stakeholder partnerships to further organizational objectives.  Communicates clearly, credibly, and decisively to senior level leadership both within the division and across the matrix.

  • Keeps the organization's vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).

  • Identifies new strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications.

  • Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation.   Active participant in the due diligence process.

  • Leads technology advancements for the franchise.

  • Ensures that new product and processing technologies are ready for new product development efforts.

  • Have extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists.

  • Collaboratively determines short and long term product strategies and technologies.

  • Ensures implementation of functional excellence initiatives.

  • Encourages problem-solving processes leading to solutions that can be leveraged across divisions.

  • Ensure sharing of initiatives/ideas and accomplishments across the divisions.

  • Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.

  • Proactively reviews future technologies and plans needed resources with appropriate technical skills either through external search or training to prepare.

  • Continually drive disease, therapy and product understanding, for self and group
     
    What we’re looking for in you:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or applicable field

    • 12+ years technical professional experience

    • 5+ years people management

    • Leads initiatives and inspires a diverse and inclusive culture

    • Leads initiatives that contribute to the EEE culture

    • Direct leadership in functions supporting the product development process

    • Excels in cross functional & collaborative leadership and stakeholder management

    • Proven track record of motivating teams and functions to achieve above plan performance

    • Strong business acumen & strategic thought leadership

    • Proven ability to drive execution of a portfolio of projects

    • Well versed in patent and intellectual property issues and able to coordinate with the legal team
