Reporting to the VP of Single Use Imaging R&D, the Director of Systems R&D leads and develops the Systems R&D team for Single Use Imaging and Endoscopy and is responsible for the execution of systems engineering within Boston Scientific Endoscopy’s new product portfolio.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • People Management: Develops and leads a high performing, inclusive R&D team that is capable of developing and implementing technical plans in partnership with other functional organizations to achieve project team goals.  Guides, coaches, directs, and develops direct reports, and drives those practices throughout their organization.

  • Project Pipeline Management: Creates an entrepreneurial environment that promotes innovation.  Collaborates with franchise partners to determine short and long term product strategies and technologies. Ensures direct imaging and electronic medical equipment needs are meet across franchises.  Identifies and brings to feasibility new strategies and projects for the investigation, design, and implementation of new or improved products and/or applications. 

  • Technology Management: Ensures that new product and processing technologies are ready for new product development efforts.  Champions excellence in delivery of R&D PDP functional deliverables.  Supports a team-first culture that surfaces and resolves conflicting functional objectives in support of project team goals.  Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation.

  • Communications and Reviews:  Establishes extensive network with business partners and key stakeholders across BSC as well as external parties including Physicians, Research Institutions, Industry Specialists, and Development partners. Responsible for department-level communications, effective communication between technical team and project core teams; participates in phase and business reviews; reviews project technical plans; actively influences cross-functional collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability in developing individuals to achieve R&D functional excellence

  • Proven success and track record of leadership managing a technical organization

  • Experience in a complex, cross-functional, global product development environment

  • Ability to create productive working relationships with cross-functional and regional stakeholders

  • Ability to influence people cross-functionally for buy-in and action

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate at all levels to get critical work done

  • Advanced decision making, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills
    Quality System Requirements:

  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.

  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering or applicable field required (MS preferred)

  • Medical device industry experience of 9 years

  • 4+ years in a leadership position within new product development

  • Excellent coaching, personnel development and leadership skills

  • Strong medical device product development experience

  • Strong experience developing electronic equipment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
