R&D Manager II  – Software

About the role:
Our Research and Development team is building the future of the operating room for urologists.  As the industry leader in surgical kidney stone treatment, we are on a mission to empower surgeons to treat more cases, more efficiently, with better outcomes – helping patients get back to their daily lives.  

As software development senior manager, you will lead a high-performance team responsible for the design, implementation, and test of software and algorithms supporting a portfolio of connected medical devices.  This key role will lead best-in-class software development practices and rigorous, holistic product design in coordination with internal and external partners.  In return for your unique combination of big-picture perspective, ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team, and strong desire to win in the marketplace, you'll be a trusted leader collaborating with some of most dynamic minds in the business.  All in an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.  

 

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, manage, and develop a team of 5-10 software engineers.  Own strategy, planning, execution, and resourcing to achieve complex feature and product development success.
• Drive technical aspects of software development including requirements, design, implementation, test, and verification/validation.
• Ensure quality system compliance for medical device software development, champion continuous improvement, and adopt best practices.
•    Foster a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.
•    Support career development of your team, provide feedback and mentorship.
•    Manage change effectively.

 

Minimum qualifications:
•    BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
•    3 years technical leadership and people management of at least 5 software engineers.
•    Proven track record of software product development and launch in a regulated environment.
•    Demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project management enabling highly effective project teams.  
•    5 years hands-on programming experience.

 

Preferred qualifications:
• Proven self-starter who runs towards critical issues, ambiguous requirements, or loosely defined challenges with a demonstrated ability to rally teams to achieve business results. 
• Multithreaded application development that includes testing and debugging C/C++ in Linux environments.  Experience with Qt a plus. 

• Understanding of working within a quality system, IEC and ISO standards relevant to medical device software lifecycle and risk management (i.e. IEC62304).
• Background in image processing, signal processing, or control systems implementation a plus.
