Research & Development Engineer II

 

Purpose / Highlights of the role

This is a great opportunity to join the Global Technology Partnerships team to deliver high impact technologies aligned with the needs of Boston Scientific divisions.  In this role you will work on early-stage research and development of organic and externally developed concepts.  We are looking for a highly motivated R&D Engineer II with a broad skillset and collaborative approach to join our dynamic team working on early-stage projects to drive business value ranging from improving operational efficiency to developing breakthrough medical therapies.  This individual may work on projects such as robotics, internet of things, and/or artificial intelligence/machine learning.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other Global Technology Partnerships team members, cross-functional stakeholders, and external partners at leading research institutions to identify, plan and execute on projects having large potential business impact.
  • Translates customer or business needs into technical requirements using systems engineering approaches, engaging stakeholders as needed.
  • Generates innovative and unique solutions to customer or business needs. 
  • Designs and develops prototypes and assesses the technical feasibility of proposed solutions.
  • Gathers voice of the customer and assesses business feasibility of proposed solutions.
  • Generates appropriate engineering and project documentation.

 

Requirements Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
  • 2+ years of professional experience in research and development
  • Professional experience working independently planning and driving deliverables to completion through collaboration among team members
  • Demonstrated cross functional teamwork in technically demanding environment
  • Excellent problem-solving and data analysis skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Internet-of-Things and/or Robotics implementation, preferably in the medical field
  • Experience developing business cases for new technical solutions and presenting findings to senior business leaders
  • Experience with architecture of data systems and connectivity
  • Experience in programming: Python or R
  • Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Google, or Azure
  • Experience in using SQL to query and manipulate large data sets for analysis
  • Experience with API service creation and interaction (REST or similar)
  • Experience working in lean-agile and ML Ops environments
