About the Role:


The Tax Operations (Accounting) group prepares Boston Scientific’s consolidated global income tax provision on a quarterly basis for reporting in the Company’s quarterly and annual financial statements filed with the SEC.  We are a dynamic team focused on continuous process improvements. We work cross-functionally with the Accounting and Finance departments, Legal, and other tax functions within the Corporate Tax department. The Tax Operations (Accounting) group is also responsible for the tax-related purchase price accounting for transactions, manages the Company’s audit of the tax provision, and researches tax technical issues.


We are seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to join our Tax Operations (Accounting) group as a Principal Tax Analyst.  This is a manager-level role reporting into the Senior Manager, Tax Operations (Accounting).  The Principal Tax Analyst plays an important role in providing decision support to management in understanding and communicating the key drivers of the worldwide tax results, while also serving as a coach and mentor to others.  The person in this role will work closely with the other Principal Tax Analyst on the team to manage multiple processes for the group, including the Internal Controls/SOX process as well as the global return-to-provision process.  Additionally, the person in this role will review tax provision calculations, document tax positions, research technical accounting matters, and collaborate with the Tax Resolutions team to identify, track, and account for uncertain tax positions.


The ideal candidate is someone who has experience preparing and reviewing ASC740 calculations including related tax technical accounting matters related to valuation allowances, stock compensation, uncertain tax positions, and more.  You are willing to leverage your previous experience to bring new ideas, fresh insights, and process improvements to the group. You are able to work independently in a remote (or hybrid) environment, are excited to travel to corporate headquarters during critical times of the year and build strong relationships with others with ease.  You have a willingness to pivot from your to-do list to work through issues as they arise, as well as to take on new or changing responsibilities as the department continues to evolve with the business. 


In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:


⦁    Consolidate the Company’s worldwide income tax provision in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 740), including reviewing completed work from senior tax analysts, outside service providers and international sites for accuracy of results, ensuring they are free from material misstatements.
⦁    Support the Corporate Tax SOX internal controls process, including preparing, testing, and documenting our internal controls.
⦁    Coordinate monthly deliverables from foreign sites, as well as from the U.S. income tax group; review monthly tax account reconciliations and journal entries.
⦁    Understand management reporting and prepare reconciliations between MD&A and U.S. GAAP tax reporting.
⦁    Prepare the tax footnote disclosures and supporting documentation for reporting in the Company’s quarterly SEC filings.
⦁    Evaluate our current processes using continuous improvement concepts to identify efficiencies and eliminate waste; Make suggestions and execute process changes.
⦁    Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Tax Technology to maintain our tax provision software, including training others on the software and monthly reporting processes.
⦁    Research tax technical issues and document findings in a clear and concise manner, including the preparation or review of memos as appropriate.
⦁    Develop and maintain relationships as you work with members of the Tax Forecasting, Tax Compliance, Global Structuring, Corporate Accounting, and SEC Reporting teams, as well as with financial controllers working globally to keep up with changes in tax laws, the business and the organization structure that impact the Company’s financial statements.
⦁    Participate in the development and mentoring of staff and work to foster an inclusive team environment.
⦁    Assist on special projects as needed.

We’re looking for people who have:


⦁    BS Degree in Accounting;
⦁    CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation;
⦁    6-8 years of related work experience in public accounting and/or a large corporate tax environment;
⦁    Proven ability to collaborate as a member of a team, build relationships cross-functionally, and exhibit empathy in a professional environment;
⦁    Interest and experience in coaching and mentoring others;
⦁    Ability to work in a dynamic environment, adhere to tight deadlines, exhibit strong attention to detail, and manage multiple priorities;
⦁    Strong analytical, technical, and written and verbal communication skills;
⦁    Excellent technology skills including working with tax software applications including Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Tax Provision, various online research tools and MS Office applications;
⦁    Experience with SAP, HFM and SmartView a plus.
