About the role:

The Tax Analyst II will play a key role within the Corporate Tax Department’s Indirect Tax Group.  This position requires a highly motivated individual with a strong analytical background as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The individual will provide support to different people and departments at all levels within the organization and will often work with external customers, various operating sites, consultants, and tax auditors.  This position requires advanced analytical skills, an attention to detail, a strong system orientation, as well as an ability to define problems and issues independently while using a logical approach to develop and implement appropriate solutions.  The individual in this position will often work with and occasionally oversee the work of other tax analysts and department administrative staff.

 

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Preparing and filing Sales & Use Tax, Excise Tax, Business Licenses, Annual Reports and Property Tax Returns and coordinating payments within filing deadlines
  • Preparing, extracting, and analyzing data to support all indirect tax compliance calculations
  • Reconciling monthly/yearly Sales and Use Tax general ledger accounts
  • Reviewing and analyzing Use Tax Accruals
  • Supporting and maintaining the Indirect Tax Mailbox inquiries
  • Overseeing the maintenance of the company’s Exemption Certificate Management system and related compliance
  • Validating exemption certificates from customers and supplying exemptions certificates to vendors
  • Serving as one of our principal points of contact for Indirect Tax related questions
  • Reviewing customer’s tax credits and preparing state tax refund requests
  • Updating and maintaining Sales tax systems and bot processes
  • Managing and coordinating Sales Tax audits and working with external tax auditors through the course of their review of the company’s Indirect Tax filings
  • Corresponding with State tax authorities
  • Researching and maintaining taxability of new/existing customers and products
  • Reviewing and issuing tax credits
  • Providing ad hoc support to other departments, external customers, and various operating sites
  • Requesting letter rulings from state tax authorities 
  • Staying current with tax law changes and changes in the business activities of the company that impact Indirect Tax
  • Supporting a system of internal controls with respect to Sales & Use and other Indirect Taxes
  • Coordinating and streamlining process improvements to satisfy departmental needs
  • Serving as lead tax analyst resource on projects to identify and implement Indirect Tax process improvements
  • Assisting on various other projects and issues as required
  • Minimal Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance /Accounting or equivalent experience (MST, MBA, CPA a plus) 
  • 3+ years of sales and use tax related experience 
  • Experience in Vertex/Quantum software 
  • Proficiency in research tools such as RIA and CCH 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong financial accounting background with the ability to analyze and interpret adjustments posted to the general ledger or other specific accounts
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Ability to meet the demands of the work schedule. May occasionally be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours. Schedules may vary based on business needs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP, Hyperion, Avalara (Exemption Certificate Management)
