About the role:


The Senior Technical Accountant will be a key member of the Boston Scientific Technical Accounting Center of Excellence (COE). This team member will serve a critical role as a subject matter expert for revenue recognition, lease accounting (ASC 606 and ASC 842, respectively) and other complex accounting areas as needed at Boston Scientific. Main responsibilities include collaborating with BSC’s global accounting teams to determine appropriate accounting treatment for certain transactions, researching applicable accounting guidance (in particular when complex revenue recognition and lease accounting matters arise), and presenting findings and accounting updates to the global business. Additional responsibilities and technical accounting areas to be added as the scope of COE expands.

The position will have significant interaction with the Corporate Accounting & Consolidation, Divisional Finance, and Global Real Estate and Sourcing teams, and is highly visible to Corporate Accounting senior leadership (including the Corporate Controller).


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Collaboration with other members of the BSC Center of Excellence, divisions, and regions to determine the appropriate technical accounting for revenue recognition, lease accounting and other complex accounting questions raised by the business 
  • Help to carry out company policies and procedures put in place as a result of the revenue recognition standard (ASC 606) and lease accounting standard (ASC 842) 
  • Executing group-wide SOX controls and quarterly/annual SEC disclosures related to ASC 606 and ASC 842
  • Research, read, and analyze the applicable accounting guidance
  • Communicate accounting conclusions to the divisions and regions
  • Educate the global business on complexities in the accounting and key impacts beyond accounting
  • Lead ad-hoc technical accounting projects, as needed

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience and education
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Master’s degree a plus

 

Requirements:

 

  • 2-5 years relevant experience in a medium to large public accounting firm (Big Four/Large Regional)
  • Prior experience in technical accounting preferred, specifically related to ASC 606 and 842
  • The successful candidate will need to exhibit the following skills:
    • Strong GAAP accounting knowledge, specifically focused on ASC 606 and ASC 842
    • Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret and apply technical accounting literature
    • Ability to work autonomously and act in a consultative role
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
    • Strong process and time management skills
    • Experience creating inclusive environment and supporting DE&I
