About the role:

 

The Senior Manager, Strategic Planning and Global Strategy is an integral member of the Global Strategy Team, whose key responsibilities will include primary support and leadership of the Annual Strategic Planning Process and related year-long strategic exercises (e.g. portfolio review, periodic landscape analyses, competitor analyses, etc.), as well as support of M&A and Venture Capital investment decisions via market studies and other strategic analyses (e.g. leveraging primary and secondary sources to size and forecast new markets, develop penetration assumptions for new products/technologies, etc.). This employee will be based in Marlborough and will report to the Director of Global Strategy.  The Global Strategy Team supports Boston Scientific’s senior leadership and Board of Directors in setting the strategy and making key capital investment decisions.

 

Your primary responsibilities include:


⦁    Leadership of Annual Strategic Planning Process: Act as primary contact point and leader of the optimization and execution of BSC’s annual strategic planning “Strat Plan” process, including: (1) solicitation of feedback and recommendations for go-forward refinement; (2) primary liaison to BU Strat Plan leads and management of information requests; (3) “ownership” of Q1 “kickoff” meetings; (4) development of strategic presentations for Strat Plan Opening Day; (5) execution oversight of the June sessions; (6) management of preparation of materials for July read out to BSX Board of Directors; (7) management of preparation for September global all employee Strat Plan webcast.  Secondary oversight – in collaboration with FP&A – of Annual Operating Plan process and read out to BSX Board of Directors. Preparation of year-end review materials to the Compensation Committee of the BSX Board of Directors. 

 

Your secondary responsibilities include:


⦁    Analysis of New Markets and Topics Impacting BSC’s Global Businesses: Support the Strategy Team’s “internal consulting” function that tackles key tactical topics of potential impact to BSC’s global businesses.  Such topics include analysis of new technologies, digital enablement tools and approaches, white space areas of potential future interest to BSC, and structural changes to BSC’s markets worldwide, including site of service shifts, national tenders, buyer consolidation, etc. 
⦁    Strategic Support of BD: Work with senior BD leaders to prioritize BD targets across global and pan-divisional opportunity set; provide direct tactical support of specific larger “live” BD deals, often in the form of ownership of particular due diligence work-streams; potential direct involvement with BSC asset divestitures. 
⦁    Portfolio Analysis and Optimization: Analysis of existing business portfolio and of R&D pipeline.  Cross-divisional analysis and optimization of R&D spend.  
⦁    Analysis of New and Existing Competitors to BSC: Closely monitor BSC’s direct competitors worldwide – both established and emerging.  Occasional “deep dives” on individual competitors for read out to EC and other senior audiences. 

 

What we're looking for in you:


Education


⦁    MBA degree is strongly preferred
Experience
⦁    Minimum of 4 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, and similar fields
⦁    Experience managing mission critical planning processes such as Strategic Planning and/or Annual Operating Plan at a major corporation is helpful but not required
⦁    Existing set of global BSC strategy and planning relationships is a positive, for internal candidates, but is not required.
⦁    Direct experience working in or with clients in the medical device industry is helpful but not required
