About the Role:
The Tax Accounting group prepares Boston Scientific’s global income tax provision for SEC financial reporting. We are a high-performing, inclusive team that supports each other’s growth while achieving key business goals. We work cross-functionally with teams across Accounting, Finance, Legal, and other areas of Corporate tax.
We are looking for a self-motivated and experienced Tax Manager to join our Tax Accounting team, reporting to the Senior Manager. In this role, you’ll understand and communicate key drivers of the worldwide tax results to management, mentor team members, collaborate with others to review tax provision calculations and return to provision calculations, document tax positions, and handle technical tax accounting matters.
We are seeking someone with strong experience in ASC 740, including valuation allowances, stock compensation, and uncertain tax positions. The candidate should bring a proactive mindset and offer fresh ideas based on their prior experiences, including suggestions for process improvements. The Company currently offers a three-day hybrid work environment. The candidate will work independently and must be comfortable adapting to changing priorities. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Consolidate the Company’s worldwide income tax provision in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 740), including reviewing completed work from senior tax analysts, outside service providers and international sites for material accuracy. Partner with regional tax managers to leverage in-country tax expertise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams – including other groups within Corporate Tax, Corporate Accounting, SEC Reporting, global finance, and external advisors – to assess the tax accounting impact of business changes and new tax laws. Quantify material impacts, ensure accurate reporting, and update tax provision processes as needed.
- Support the execution and documentation of Corporate Tax SOX internal controls, ensuring compliance with internal control requirements and readiness for audit reviews.
- Coordinate monthly deliverables from foreign sites, as well as from the U.S. income tax group; review monthly tax account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Understand management reporting and prepare reconciliations to U.S. GAAP tax reporting. Prepare and review quarterly tax entries in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare and review GAAP and non-GAAP tax disclosures and supporting documents for SEC filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Partner with external auditors to provide documentation and respond to inquiries during their quarterly and annual reviews. Work proactively during quarters to early issue identify and move work out of close cycles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with subject matter experts who identify and document uncertain tax positions. Provide technical guidance and support on ASC 740-10 accounting requirements to ensure these positions are properly analyzed, accurately reconciled within tax provision software, and appropriately disclosed in financial statements.
- Research tax technical issues and document findings in a clear and concise manner, including the preparation or review of memos as appropriate.
- Assist with maintaining and maximizing functionality of our tax provision software (Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Tax Provision) to increase efficiency.
- Support foreign accounting teams by providing guidance and periodic training on U.S. GAAP tax reporting and compliance requirements, including instruction on tax software and monthly reporting processes.
- Mentor and develop staff while promoting a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle time and enhance efficiency, leveraging technology and continuous improvement principles.
- Support special projects as needed, including acquisitions and divestitures and assist the Senior Tax Manager, Acquisitions and Integrations, in ensuring accurate purchase accounting data is reflected in the tax provision software.
Required Qualifications:
- BS Degree in accounting
- 6-8 years of related work experience in public accounting and/or a large multinational corporate tax environment
- Strong experience with ASC 740 (tax provisions) and U.S. GAAP tax accounting
- Experience with SEC reporting and related tax disclosures
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment, adhere to tight deadlines, exhibit strong attention to detail, and manage multiple priorities
- Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation
- Experience with SAP, HFM and SmartView or other large ERP systems
- Experience with tax software applications such as Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Tax Provision and various online research tools

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
