The Americas field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for supporting the safe and effective use of Boston Scientific Interventional Oncology and Embolization (IO&E) therapies. This role communicates complex medical and scientific information to health care professionals (HCPs) and provides field medical intelligence and insights to internal stakeholders.

The MSL is responsible for internal and external training across Boston Scientific IO&E therapies. The incumbent will be working autonomously within an assigned territory, that they develop and advances medical activities and initiatives to achieve key medical objectives related to hepatic artery infusion (HAI) therapy.

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

This is a remote, field-based position. Candidates may be located across the United States and should have convenient access to a major airport. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:

Medical support that focus on Boston Scientific's IO&E therapies

• Build, maintain and manage effective peer-to-peer professional relationships with contracted external experts (EEs) and key opinion leaders (KOLs), engaging in bidirectional scientific and educational exchange.
• Identify and understand medical and scientific barriers that may influence patient outcomes, with a focus on ongoing research, newly published evidence, practice pattern changes and alternative therapies.
• Communicate the clinical evidence supporting Boston Scientific IO&E therapies in an objective, balanced manner, including the totality of available evidence and key evidence gaps.
• Execute medical plans by communicating technical and clinical data supporting new products and/or indications.
• Develop territory plans to identify early users who can provide meaningful clinical insights.
• Provide medical and scientific support for external experts speaking about Boston Scientific products at medical meetings and congresses.
• Support peer-to-peer education programs through speaker identification and ongoing support.
• Gather field medical intelligence and insights that may affect therapy safety and efficacy, clinical and R&D strategies, and competitive activities.
• Develop strategies to gather insights from a diverse range of stakeholders and communicate findings to internal stakeholders in a clear, coherent and informative manner.
• Identify clinical insights and knowledge gaps and articulate the potential impact and magnitude of findings.
• Provide medical and scientific congress support by communicating accurate information and ensuring timely follow-up.
• Attend key congress sessions, communicate relevant findings to internal stakeholders and develop and execute KOL engagement plans.
• Conduct literature searches and curate relevant scientific evidence to address medical information requests from HCPs. Provide thoughtful, medically sound assessments in a timely manner and use medical information appropriately to strengthen KOL relationships and deliver medical insights to the business.
• Assist the Boston Scientific Clinical Development team with company-sponsored clinical trials, including clinical trial site identification, site initiation, protocol education and ongoing support.
• Identify factors that may accelerate or inhibit patient recruitment, quality data collection or patient retention. Recommend research sites capable of delivering strong patient enrollment and quality data.
• Support principal investigators by providing up-to-date information that may improve patient recruitment and/or data quality and provide medical insights on key findings affecting study performance.
• Identify novel investigator-sponsored research (ISR) ideas through scientific exchange and clearly articulate how potential concepts align with Boston Scientific strategic interests.
• Support investigator-initiated research and study programs by identifying and championing innovative ideas, facilitating study startup and providing ongoing consultation.
• Provide quarterly updates to senior leadership on study progress and medical and scientific insights, including major milestone accomplishments.

Therapy training to guide the safe and effective use of Boston Scientific IO&E therapies

• Proactively engage HCPs to provide on-label product and procedural training for Boston Scientific IO&E therapies.
• Provide education and training for patient-specific cases, including patient selection criteria, dosing, device setup and deployment, and methods to mitigate adverse events, including real-time procedural training.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for medical education and internal training courses.
• Provide product and disease-state education and training to Boston Scientific Commercial and R&D teams related to technical, medical and scientific information.
• Provide refresher training to users who are not achieving desired outcomes.

Required qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in healthcare, pharmacy or clinically related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a clinical, medical or scientific role involving frequent interaction with health care providers.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex medical and scientific problems and develop innovative solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to develop advanced medical, scientific or clinical concepts and guide them through execution.
• Demonstrated experience creating, managing and completing medical or scientific projects, attending medical conferences, developing presentations and analyzing data.
• Demonstrated clinical acumen, preferably including clinical patient care experience or experience working within a complex health care delivery system.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 75%, including overnight travel.

Preferred qualifications:

• Advanced degree in a clinically related field, such as PharmD, Ph.D., M.D., D.O. or advanced practice provider credentials.
• Experience in gastrointestinal and/or HPV oncology, preferably with liver-focused therapies.
• Demonstrated oncology experience or ability to quickly develop expertise in new therapeutic areas.
• Demonstrated scientific and medical acumen, preferably supported by a publication record.
• Industry experience in a clinical, medical or scientific role.
• Previous Medical Science Liaison experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) – see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com—will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
