About the Role:

 

At Boston Scientific, we are seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing professional to join Boston Scientific’s IT Category team within the Global Indirect Sourcing organization as a Principal Sourcing Specialist.  The primary role of this position is to execute, lead, facilitate, support, or assist in the development of Strategic Sourcing and supplier management strategies across BSC’s global suppliers for Information Technology (IT).  This team member is integral to the sourcing, negotiation, and management activities for supplier contracts valued between $250K and $2M approximately.  In addition, this position is expected to play a key role in for building on and fostering relationships between BSC sites, divisions, and the strategic supplier base to improve organizational efficiency and optimize business and financial opportunities.  The individual should partner and collaborate with both corporate and non-corporate IT management teams at all levels up to the Vice President and CIO.  Further, the experienced Strategic Sourcing professional is expected to work at the direction of the IT Category Global Sourcing Managers and Lead; work independently with minimal direction; as well as to work in tandem on a range of different projects simultaneously.

 

Global Indirect Sourcing Team at Boston Scientific:

 

  • The Global Indirect Sourcing Team is an organization of nearly 80 sourcing professionals designed to reduce cost, provide value through reporting, and improve the efficiency of key business processes by taking opportunities to drive standardization, leverage resources and knowledge and skills, and monitor the effectiveness of service delivery against benchmarks and service level agreements.

Your Responsibilities Include:


Strategic Sourcing Support:
 

  • Lead and/or support IT category cost savings and cost avoidance contracting initiatives on a range of low to high complexity suppliers across several enterprise IT domains including ERP, manufacturing, finance, supply chain, data center, cloud-based computing, cybersecurity, and outsourcing. 
  • Be the SME for the competitive solicitation process including advising on reverse auctions and the end-to-end RFx process, and inclusion of diverse suppliers. 
  • Drive and coach project team members on the fact-based analyses needed to negotiate cost savings or cost avoidance with incumbent vendors on a variety of IT supplier initiatives. 
  • Be an essential contributor to the development and execution of all other sourcing and negotiation strategies that result in sustainable competitive advantage for BSC.

 

Contract Support:
 

  • Maintains a knowledge base of BSC's standardized commercial and non-commercial contract terms for IT.   This includes (1) ability to coach stakeholders on IT contract cost drivers such as software licensing, rate cards, and statements of work (2) awareness to IT risk drivers such as the security and privacy terms that apply to all IT vendors with varying degree.
  • Maintains familiarity with BSC template legal agreements for IT master services and master cloud subscriptions. This includes an ability to drive supplier consensus on BSC's most essential legal concepts in advance of BSC legal term negotiations. 

 

Relationship Support:
 

  • Provide sourcing expertise and/or influence across IT suppliers and internal BSC leads to increase organizational integration and efficiency.
  • Become a trusted advisor by regularly adding value to initiatives that result in successful outcomes.
  • Develop long lasting relationships and support a sourcing operating model with IT leadership.


Sourcing Team Activities:
 

  • Engage COE sourcing analysts to assist assisting with sourcing initiatives.  Guide sourcing analysts on various strategic sourcing actions such as conducting spend analyses, developing cost baselines, and measuring cost savings for example.    
  • Provide ongoing administrative support to the Global Sourcing team, including: (1) Tracking and reporting of cost savings and avoidance; (2) Owning select IT category processes/initiatives; (3) Support ad hoc processes such vendor info change, quality audits, AVL updates, etc. 
  • Support the annual Category Plan process with research, analytics, and presentation materials.
  • Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports BSC’s Quality Policy, Quality System and the appropriate regulations for the area supported.

 

What We’re Looking For:
 

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics and equivalent experience is required. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in IT related strategic sourcing or strategic procurement.
  • Strong analytics competencies, project management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to organize and strategize each opportunity to yield optimum results. 
  • Well-honed skills in influencing, building consensus, and implementing change management programs.
  • Business acumen to influence parties outside of the direct span of control.
  • Proficient at communicating verbally and in writing both direct and complex business updates and ideas to stakeholders, suppliers, and BSC senior management.
  • The position will involve infrequent travel to meet with stakeholder and suppliers.


Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • (MBA) or professional certification (e.g., C.P.M.) preferred.
  • A strong knowledge and or prior background in IT management or IT sourcing is strongly preferred.
