About the role:
Boston Scientific seeks a high performing individual to organize and lead the company’s process to forecast the global tax position of Boston Scientific. Qualified candidates must bring an understanding of US and global tax laws and income tax accounting concepts and will develop knowledge of the Boston Scientific organizational structure and supply chain in the role. This person will build relationships across the finance organization to keep informed of business changes, opportunities, and initiatives to determine their impact to the company’s global tax position. Additionally, the Principal Analyst will assess the tax impact of strategic alternatives on the company’s position by creating and analyzing multiple planning scenarios and making recommendations for tax efficient alternatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Plan and lead the execution of significant workstreams that support the overall process to forecast the company’s world-wide effective tax rate and global cash tax projections for annual plan, three-year strategic plan, and quarterly calculations utilized for interim accounting per ASC 740-270 and management and external reporting purposes.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of US and global tax laws affecting the company to ensure existing rate and cash models are complete and accurate; Monitor the tax environment for any law changes; Initiate and direct projects to model the impacts of potential changes on the company.
- Collaborate with colleagues across our 35+ person tax organization to develop models that quantify the impacts of potential changes in tax structure, accounting methods, tax elections, and complex tax planning scenarios; Synthesize results and communicate the impact on the company’s effective tax rate and cash tax projections to management.
- Build relationships across the broader finance organization with peers in Accounting, Treasury, and FP&A teams to stay aware of and understand proposed changes to the business such as corporate initiatives, expansions, acquisitions, restructurings, and divestitures, and their impact on the company’s effective tax rate and cash tax projections.
- Create, analyze, and interpret flexible, scalable models for planning scenarios. Implement technology-based solutions with data visualization tools such as Alteryx, and Tableau.
- Evaluate existing models using continuous improvement methodologies to increase efficiency and propose solutions to reduce cycle time.
- Compare and analyze forecast models to prior versions and actual results, using Hyperion, Onesource Tax Provision, and other data, at periodic increments during the year. Highlight key drivers that impact results and create variances; determine root causes and propose solutions to improve forecasting accuracy.
- Participate in the development and mentoring of staff and work to foster an inclusive team environment.
Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting or Finance; MSA/MST and/or CPA preferred
- 6+ yrs of work experience in the tax department of a U.S. multinational and/or public accounting
- Ability to operate effectively as a team member in a dynamic, deadline driven environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in U.S. federal tax matters including knowledge of international tax concepts such as foreign tax credit limitations, GILTI, and FDII preferred
- Knowledge of ASC 740 principles and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Understanding of supply chain issues and transfer pricing concepts a plus, but willing to train
- Experience and/or interest in continuous improvement methodologies and concepts a plus
- Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills, including Excel functions, exposure to other technology preferred
