About the role

Our Sustaining Research and Development team within Urology continues to grow and transform to support our diverse portfolio of products, to drive design related issue ensuring quality, compliance and continuity of our business.

 

The Sustaining R&D Manager leads the Mechanical team within the Urology Division. The role involves guiding R&D engineers through technical and business decisions, developing talent, and ensuring quality, compliance, and business continuity. Key responsibilities include mentoring a team, fostering an inclusive workplace, providing guidance and training, resolving technical issues, and managing project needs and staff assignments.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leads and mentors a team of employees in the achievement of organizational goals.  Guides, coaches, and develops direct reports, and drives best practices throughout the organization.
  • Fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.
  • Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high-quality staff.
  • Works cross-functionally in identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Maintains and enhances cross-functional team relationships.
  • Collaboratively evaluates project needs to determine staff assignments and schedules work to meet completion dates and R&D deliverables.
  • Works with project managers to understand priorities and plans resource and time allocation accordingly, to determine appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources.
  • Assists in identifying and developing department tools and systems.
  • Monitors and evaluates project and department progress and results.
  • Participates in the development of budgets and monitors spending for sustaining efforts related with business area.
  • Maintain cross collaboration with Project Management, Design Quality and Regulatory Affairs partners, as well as with Operations – Manufacturing Engineering and Supply chain partners

 

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years technical leadership roles, preferably in medical device industry.
  • Mechanical, Biomedical, Chemical or similar Engineering degree. Bachelors required.
  • Track record of strong cross-functional collaboration, influence, and project management enabling highly effective project teams.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Medical device experience in Urology products.
  • Master Degree in Engineering or MBA
  • Ability to transparently and concisely communicate technical issues and risks across all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of complex design principles and FDA/BSI regulated medical device design controls.
  • Practiced problem solver, proficient in problem solving methodologies (i.e. Six Sigma, DOE, etc.)
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data driven decision making.
  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions.
  • Takes initiative and acts quickly to drive solutions.
  • Passion for understanding and solving problems for end users and internal customers.
  • Experience developing a company culture of knowledge driven product development & engineering excellence.
  • Financial acumen, budgeting and finance related indicators.
