About the role

The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the Corporate Technical Accounting team at Boston Scientific. This role is responsible for overseeing several complex accounting areas including but not limited to lease accounting, accounting for stock-based compensation, and debt & derivative accounting. This role collaborates with BSC’s global accounting teams to determine appropriate accounting treatment for significant transactions involving the technical areas above and ensures the accuracy of month end close processes. A successful candidate is a self-motivated finance professional with strong core and technical accounting skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and a keen focus on internal controls to drive positive results across a global organization.

This role will interact with Corporate Accounting & Consolidation, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Real Estate and HR teams; continually assess and implement process improvements; and maintain accurate accounting of results in a well-controlled environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Apply technical accounting research to various areas including debt & derivatives, lease accounting, statement of cash flow, accounting for stock-based compensation
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and presentations to highlight key considerations and financial impacts
  • Complete accounting close activities and related internal controls, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Partner with the SEC Reporting team to prepare high-quality footnotes and disclosures for our quarterly and annual filings
  • Partner with the Corporate SOX team to maintain effective internal controls over areas of responsibility
  • Liaise with external auditors to address review/audit questions and provide relevant responses and supporting documentation
  • Deliver accurate annual plan and periodic forecast estimates to FP&A for each area of responsibility
  • Drive continuous improvement within our processes to gain efficiencies

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience and education; Master’s degree a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience required. Prior experience in a public accounting firm preferred. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; SAP and Hyperion Financial Management experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Copilot and/or ChatGPT Enterprise experience a plus.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP and ability to interpret and apply technical accounting research and reach conclusions, particularly in areas of debt & derivative accounting, statement of cash flow, revenue recognition, lease accounting, accounting for stock-based compensation
  • Desire to engage, lead, and work in cross-functional teams (independently and in a consultative manner)
  • Attention to detail and data accuracy, while understanding the “big picture”
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills which provide the ability to establish and build working relationships with individuals throughout the organization

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

 

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
