About the role:
Develops procedures to comply with all U.S. (federal, state & local) corporate income tax laws to satisfy all tax reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner. Carries out objectives established by tax leadership for the Tax Operations team through the creation of mid- to long-range operating plans. Develops and communicates a vision for the team and builds consensus for operating goals. Identifies and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results.  Develops procedures to provide U.S. income tax inputs for the quarterly and annual forecast and financial reporting and close processes. Monitors and analyzes proposed and enacted tax legislation, published regulations and rulings, court decisions, etc. and modifies procedures to accurately report corporate taxes. Recommends accounting methods, elections and other filing positions and interprets tax laws and regulations with a focus on minimizing Boston Scientific's tax liability while avoiding or minimizing tax authority adjustments, interest and associated penalties. 

 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Manages the preparation of all U.S. (federal, state & local) income tax returns such that all income tax reporting requirements (including returns, extensions and estimates) are met in a timely and accurate manner. Makes decisions regarding work processes and operational plans. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements. 
  • Manages the preparation of U.S. income tax inputs for the quarterly and annual forecast and financial reporting and close processes, including preparation of the year-end U.S. income tax provision (current and deferred tax computations). 
  • Assesses tax reporting options available to the company (such as tax accounting methods, elections and other claimed positions) to minimize company taxes and recommends actions consistent with objectives established by tax leadership. Evaluates the level of authority associated with claimed tax positions and communicates risks associated with uncertain positions.
  • Monitors and analyzes proposed and enacted tax legislation, published regulations and rulings, court decisions, etc. and modifies procedures, budgets and work plans to ensure accurate reporting of corporate taxes. Communicates material impacts of new requirements to tax leadership. 
  • Oversees the creation and retention of working papers, studies and other documentation that support the proper determination and reporting of taxes in each jurisdiction as well as to facilitate tax authority examination and avoid penalties. Engages with Tax Resolutions team for the effective transfer of completed work.
  • Continuously strives to improve tax reporting processes. Monitors and directs the implementation of information systems that improve the quality, accuracy and efficiency of tax reporting and works with our support teams to leverage the use of technology in our tax reporting cycle.  Develops and coordinates plans for integrating acquired companies into our tax reporting systems. 
  • Accomplishes results through subordinate managers who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments. Reviews completed work for adequacy of results ensuring that they are either aligned with expectations or that deviations are rationally explained. Evaluates performance of and assists in career development planning for subordinates.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Accounting or Taxation 
  • 8+ years relevant tax experience (public accounting or industry) including direct oversight of U.S. income tax reporting matters 
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge/experience in U.S. federal, state, and international taxation, including proficiency with laws related to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and associated tax reporting 
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including corporate tax provision experience (preferably with US multinationals) 
  • Demonstrated managerial experience, including coaching, personnel development and leadership competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively drive change in a global organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Taxation and/or CPA
  • Tax experience in med-tech industry
  • Broad exposure on transfer pricing matters
