About the role:
The Senior Medical Writer is responsible for the preparation of documents that support the presentation, publication, and regulatory writing needs of assigned therapeutic areas and/or products in the BSC Interventional Cardiology Clinical Communications group. As part of Clinical Sciences, this group supports the scientific and regulatory communication needs of BSC interventional cardiology medical device clinical trials, registries, and other studies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Prepares manuscripts, as well as abstracts, slide presentations, and poster presentations for scientific meetings within and outside the U.S.
- Solicit and incorporate KOL/physicians/trial investigators feedback on manuscripts, abstracts, slide presentations and posters.
- Works with clinical project managers to assist with the review and preparation of clinical trial reports, investigator brochures, summary documents, and other documents that support the regulatory needs of a project.
- Supports the above clinical communications needs for clinical trials and registries in interventional cardiology in markets both within and outside the U.S.
- Reviews statistical output from BSC medical device clinical trials and registries and determines appropriate evaluation, interpretation, and presentation of data.
- Collaborates extensively with internal medical directors, clinical trial managers, statisticians, other medical writers as part of project core teams. Interacts externally with study investigators, journals, conference organizers, and freelance/contract medical writers.
- Remains current with medical developments and publications on similar and competitor products. Applies this knowledge to BSC communications projects.
- Interacts with marketing and other groups as needed to ensure that clinical data is represented accurately and correctly in any published literature, slide sets, and other materials prepared by these groups.
- Ensures that accurate, high-quality documents are prepared on schedule. Review documents for accuracy and for appropriate evaluation and presentation of data, methodology, and interpretation.
- Helps to organize and chair publication and presentation plan teams. Interacts with authors, investigators, internal BSC personnel, journals, editors, and others as necessary to ensure the successful implementation of publication and presentation plans.
- Assists other medical writers, as per project timeline and workload demands.
Required qualifications:
- Ph.D./Pharm.D. plus 1 to 5 years of related pharmaceutical/medical device industry/academic experience (e.g., medical writing, clinical research).
- MPH, B.Pharm, MS, plus 8 to 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical/medical device industry/academic experience.
- Extensive experience in writing, editing and submitting publications to journals and congresses with complete support from inception to completion
Preferred qualifications:
- Demonstrated scientific writing ability, candidate will be asked to do a writing test.
- Solid understanding of scientific or clinical research and the scientific method.
- Ability to prepare and deliver scientific presentations; understanding of the structure and content of scientific presentations, ability to tailor presentation format and content to specific needs of topic and/or audience.
- Good understanding of statistical methods; willingness to learn new statistical concepts as needed.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and summarize statistical results of clinical studies.
- Must be highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (especially Microsoft Word and PowerPoint); skill in Microsoft Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator, EndNote Reference Software, and other scientific graphics software would be helpful.
- Ability to work independently, a self-starter.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team and form productive working relationships within and external to the Clinical Communications department.
- Strong sense of responsibility and urgency. Ability to take ownership of projects.
- Flexibility and ability to manage simultaneous priorities, and changing deadlines.
