About the role:

As Senior R&D Manager you will be a key member of the Endoscopy Research and Development Team. Your primary responsibility will be leading a team of R&D engineers in driving the advancement of acquisition integration activities. The successful candidate will ensure that program objectives are determined and met, logistics are effectively coordinated, and budgets are adhered to.  This individual will have the opportunity to work in a high-paced, cross-functional, and collaborative environment.

 

This critical role will lead best-in-class development practices and rigorous, holistic product design in coordination with internal and external partners. The ideal candidate will exhibit a blend of technical knowledge, business acumen, coaching ability, fact-based decision making, project management expertise, and collaborative stakeholder management. You will foster an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.  

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with Franchise Teems and PMO to understand acquisition landscape and strategic planning, and drive and evaluate projects to execute to achieve results.
  • Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources to meet completion dates and R&D deliverables for integration programs.
  • Makes decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules to achieve objectives.
  • Works cross-functionally to resolve issues that arise which are directly impacting the schedule, performance, or cost measures
  • Keeps the organization's vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action.
  • Hire and develop top talent to provide technical leadership for diverse R&D projects
  • Provide guidance regarding technical strategies and approaches on product and technology development projects.
  • Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high-quality staff.
  • Coach and lead engineering teams to develop technical aspects of complex single use device development including requirements, design, implementation, test, integration, transfer to manufacturing, and verification/validation. Establish meaningful goals that define success.
  • Develop detailed work plans, budgets, objectives, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports. Monitor and troubleshoot performance and schedule issues. Support and enable team to achieve objectives

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline  
  • Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or Acquisition integration): 7+ years with BS, 5+ years with MS 
  • 5+ years’ experience managing technical teams in the development of medical devices or equivalent.
  • Proficient in design controls and risk management practices with fluency in what external regulations require for various product approvals 
  • Highly creative problem solver who leads with a sense of urgency 
  • Demonstrated strong cross-functional collaboration, influence without authority, and project/task management enabling highly effective teams   
  • Passion for understanding the end user environment with a fluency in design validation and usability to confirm design solutions 
  • Successful history of launching and maintaining products within the medical device industry
  • Demonstrated capability to lead high performing technical teams tackling complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of Design Controls & Risk Management practices
  • Personal drive, individual accountability and a strong bias for action 
  • Strong personal credibility and excellent communication skills 

 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineer, or Biomedical or Materials Science
  • Experience with technology acquisition & integration
  • Experience developing devices and/or delivery systems for endoscopic applications.
  • Ability to lead a multi-site team and collaborate with peers in different locations.
  • Woking knowledge of Boston Scientific Design Controls and Systems
  • Experience with the development of Class III medical devices
