About the role:
As the result of a strategic decision to build-out the capabilities of our indirect tax function, we have added a Senior Analyst role to our US reporting team. This position presents an outstanding opportunity for a career minded individual to increase their tax, systems, and product knowledge in the rapidly expanding med-tech industry and be part of a growing international team. The Senior Analyst will fill a key role on our US indirect tax team for which we are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong indirect tax background. The individual will have the opportunity to interact with other professionals working in operations and finance teams throughout Boston Scientific, with external customers, various operating sites, consultants, and tax auditors. In addition to excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the position requires solid analytical skills, an attention to detail, strong system orientation, and the ability to define problems and issues independently while using a logical approach to develop and implement solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
Process and technical matters
- Serve as a principal contact for indirect tax inquiries
- Conduct and/or review research on product and customer taxation, applicable exemptions, and related matters
- Validate customer exemption certificates and issue certificates to vendors
- Provide technical support on state tax matters including tax examinations, refund requests and letter rulings
- Keep apprised of tax law changes that impact the business and overall reporting requirements
- Evaluate and improve indirect tax processes and procedures for efficiency and accuracy
- Assist in mentoring, training and providing guidance to other junior analysts on indirect tax concepts and processes
Tax reporting and systems
- Provide tax reporting and compliance support (review/preparation) for sales & use tax returns, property tax filings and administrative support on corporate annual reports and business licenses; provide coordination on tax remittances and manage related filing deadlines
- Prepare and review state tax refund requests
- Provide ad hoc support to other departments and related customers
- Work with the team to oversee/execute key monthly compliance processes:
- Extract and analyze data to support all indirect tax calculations
- Reconcile monthly/yearly sales and use tax G/L accounts
- Review and analyze use tax accruals
- Maintain sales tax system and BOT processes
What we're looking for:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent experience
- 3 -5 years of sales and use tax related experience
- Experience in Vertex/Quantum software
- Proficiency in research tools such as RIA, Bloomberg, and ATR
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong financial accounting background with the ability to analyze and interpret adjustments posted to the general ledger or other specific accounts
Preferred Qualifications
- MST, MBA, CPA
- Experience with SAP, Hyperion
- Demonstrated experience with state and local indirect tax planning, tax research, and tax analysis
- Ability to multi-task and work independently
- Proven ability to identify issues and make recommendations to improve process/procedure to correct the root cause.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
